RSVP comes from the French expression "Repondez s'il vous plait" which means respond, if you please. When responding it requires a yes or no answer. Nothing more, nothing less. You need to respond within 48 hours, if possible. The host/hostess needs to get numbers. Answer yes or no when responding, if the answer is no, you do not have to provide an excuse. If you are not sure, then you can ask the host to extend your "RSVP deadline." But it is up to the host to decided if you get an extension. Only the names on the invitation should attend the event. That means, no children or house guests are aloud to come to the event. You should also not ask if they could attend, unless they are specifically invited. Use the address or phone number to respond. "Do not respond in person at the commissary etc." If you do that, they most likely will not remember; therefore it won't be noted that you are attending. If RSVP/Regrets is not on the invitation, then you are required to attend. "Regrets only"means that you only call if you can not attend. Invitations What do you wear to a specific "function?
