Indus was founded upon the principles of serving and caring for those around us. We specialize in taking under performing properties and repositioning them into successful, beautiful and thriving communities that our residents are proud to call home. By choosing Indus, you carry the responsibility and duty to help those that come through our doors find a home. What a wonderful opportunity each of us has to help those in our community. Whether it’s a prospect, a vendor or another team member, be mindful that we all have a common goal to be successful while continuing to provide a return to our investors. I mention investors and I am proud to say that 20% of our company is made up of our employee investors. Our mission is clear: We are committed to establishing communities where residents are happy and proud to call us home. I relate with many of our residents who are on a similar journey that me and my family took many years ago. Some of them are first-time renters immigrating to Houston and do not have any help. I am in the position to give back to my community and provide more resources to them. Our foundation, The Alka and Ajay Gupta Foundation, partners with all of our Indus communities to lend a helping hand many times throughout the year. In closing, If I could give any advice, I would ask that you to be considerate of one another and remember the following: Always give your best Be respectful to those around you Have enthusiasm and remember to enjoy your work Be forward thinking and think like an owner Be relentless in your quest to getting things accomplished Lead with integrity On behalf of my family, I want to welcome you to the Indus family. Transcript: Laryngeal Cancer Background Info Background Info Background Information Background Information Laryngeal cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the larynx. The larynx is a part of the throat, between the base of the tongue and the trachea. The larynx contains the vocal cords, which vibrate and make sound when air is directed against them. The sound echoes through the pharynx, mouth, and nose to make a person's voice. Background Information Background Information There are three main parts of the larynx: Supraglottis: The upper part of the larynx above the vocal cords, including the epiglottis. Glottis: The middle part of the larynx where the vocal cords are located. Subglottis: The lower part of the larynx between the vocal cords and the trachea (windpipe). Background Information Background Information Most laryngeal cancers form in squamous cells, the thin, flat cells lining the inside of the larynx. Laryngeal cancer is a type of head and neck cancer. Background Information Background Information Approximately 13,150 people are diagnosed with laryngeal cancer each year. About 60% start in the glottis, 35% in the supraglottis and the rest develop in the subglottis or overlap more than one area. Background Information Background Information It is more common in men than women and most commonly diagnosed between the ages of 55-64. The front of the larynx in men, where the central plates form a ridge, is often referred to as the “Adam’s Apple” The larynx produces raw sound, which is formed into recognizable sounds through the mouth. Background Infomation Background Infomation Sypmtoms Sypmtoms A sore throat or cough that does not go away. Trouble or pain when swallowing. Ear pain. A lump in the neck or throat. A change or hoarseness in the voice. Diagnostic Tests Diagnostic Tests Physical exam of the throat and neck: An exam to check the throat and neck for abnormal areas. The doctor will feel the inside of the mouth with a gloved finger and examine the mouth and throat with a small long-handled mirror and light. The neck will be felt for swollen lymph nodes. Diagnostic Tests Diagnostic Tests Biopsy : The removal of cells or tissues so they can be viewed under a microscope by a pathologist to check for signs of cancer. The sample of tissue may be removed during one of the following procedures: Laryngoscopy : A procedure to look at the larynx (voice box) for abnormal areas. A mirror or a laryngoscope (a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a lens for viewing) is inserted through the mouth to see the larynx. A special tool on the laryngoscope may be used to remove samples of tissue. Endoscopy : A procedure to look at organs and tissues inside the body, such as the throat, esophagus, and trachea to check for abnormal areas. An endoscope (a thin, lighted tube with a light and a lens for viewing) is inserted through an opening in the body, such as the mouth. A special tool on the endoscope may be used to remove samples of tissue. Diagnostic Tests Diagnostic Tests CT scan (CAT scan): A procedure that makes a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body, taken from different angles. The pictures are made by a computer linked to an x-ray machine. A dye may be injected into a vein or swallowed to help the organs or tissues show up more clearly. This procedure is also called computed tomography, computerized tomography, or computerized axial tomography. Diagonostic Tests Diagonostic Tests PET scan (positron emission tomography scan): A procedure to find malignant tumor cells in the body. A small amount of radioactive glucose (sugar) is injected into a vein. The PET scanner rotates around the body and makes a picture of where glucose is being used in the body. Malignant tumor cells show up brighter in the picture because they are more active and take up more glucose than normal cells do. Diagnostic Tests Diagnostic Tests Bone scan : A procedure to check if there are rapidly dividing cells, such as cancer cells, in the bone. A very small amount of radioactive material is injected into a vein and travels through the bloodstream. The radioactive material collects in the bones with cancer and is detected by a scanner. Diagonostic Tests Diagonostic Tests Barium swallow : A series of x-rays of the esophagus and stomach. The patient drinks a liquid that contains barium (a silver-white metallic compound). The liquid coats the esophagus and stomach, and x-rays are taken. This procedure is also called an upper GI series. Treatements Treatements The stage of the disease. The location and size of the tumor. Keeping the patient's ability to talk, eat, and breathe as normal as possible. Whether the cancer has come back (recurred). Lasar Surgery Lasar Surgery Photodynamic therapy (PDT) : you have an injection of a drug that makes laryngeal cancer cells sensitive to the laser light. PDT may also be used to control symptoms of advanced laryngeal cancer. The surgeon makes a cut in your
Transcript: Brain Cancer!!!! What is brain cancer?? There are two main types of brain cancer. Primary brain cancer starts in the brain. Metastatic brain cancer starts somewhere else in the body and moves to the brain. Brain tumors can be benign, with no cancer cells. How does one get it? As with tumors elsewhere in the body, the exact cause of most brain tumors is unknown. treatment? Brain cancer is one of the trickiest types of cancer for alternative medicine to treat. While it is easy to kill the cancer cells in a brain cancer patient (many alternative cancer treatments easily penetrate the blood-brain barrier), it is not easy to safely kill the cancer cells. The problem is that the debris from dead cancer cells can be very difficult to safely remove from the brain. Preventionsteps/Immunization Cancer vaccines are designed to boost the body’s natural ability to protect itself, through the immune system, from dangers posed by damaged or abnormal cells such as cancer cells. Prone to certain populations/areas http://www.braintumor.org/patients-family-friends/about-brain-tumors/?gclid=CLaGmvHZuKwCFZFb7AoddhvUmg(according to the website above). Symptoms Brain cancer takes up space within the skull and can interfere with normal brain activity. It can increase pressure in the brain, shift the brain or push it against the skull, and/or invade and damage nerves and healthy brain tissue. Complications A brain tumor can cause complications depending on the part of your brain that's affected. Complications can include: Weakness. A brain tumor can damage any part of the brain. But if the part of the brain involved happens to control strength or movement of an arm or leg, it could produce definite weakness in that part of the body. Cutting edge research We understand that brain tumor and cancer patients are in desperate need of new, effective treatments. To advance the most promising leads we partner with top notch researchers to bring new treatments to patients as quickly as possible. In total, Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure has awarded over $15 million to fund brain tumor and brain cancer research. Our research projects are quite diverse: ranging from creating targeted therapeutics to improving drug delivery to developing new preclinical screening mouse models to honing diagnostic biomarkers. A common characteristic of these projects is that most would not have moved forward without our funding. •Cancer vaccines are designed to boost the body’s natural ability to protect itself, through the immune system, from dangers posed by damaged or abnormal cells such as cancer cells As with tumors elsewhere in the body, the exact cause of most brain tumors is unknown. Works Cited Cancer is the general name for a group of more than 100 diseases. Although there are many kinds of cancer, all cancers start because abnormal cells grow out of control. Untreated cancers can cause serious illness and death stages of cancer From February 1973 to December 2011, 12 cases of esophageal leiomyosarcoma were identified. The principal symptoms included progressive dysphagia in 11 cases (91.7%), retrosternal/back pain in four (33.3%), weight loss in four (33.3%), upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage in two (16.7%), and emesis in two (16.7%) (National Center).
Transcript: The term "brain cancer" is used to refer to any abnormal, malignant growth around the brain. Because of the brains importance in the body, brain cancer is very harmful. Headaches with no obvious cause Vomiting with no nausea Changes in behavior Ex. (Memory loss, impaired judgement The causes of brain cancer are largely unknown, however some factors have been linked to this cancer, including Ionizing Radiation Exposure to certain toxins (Oil Refineries) Risk is also thought to be increased by hereditary factors. Brain cancer treatment is similar to treatment of most cancers. This includes Chemotherapy Radiation Therapy Surgery Every case of cancer is different, and therefore treatment is generally varied based on the individual 10 ( Not so fun) Facts Althought it is a commonly held belief, cell phone usage has not been proven to increase the risk of brain cancer at all. More knowledge about brain cancer has been gained in the last 10 years than in the 100 years preceding them Brain Tumors most commonly come from other parts of the body, rather then originating at the brain itself. Brain tumors formed during childhood are the leading cause of death in people under the age of 20 Many tumors will invade parts of the brain integral to normal body function, making surgery impossible No two cases of brain cancer are alike, complicating the options for treatment Overview Treatment Headaches caused by brain cancer are often not helped by painkillers The color grey is used to represent brain cancer on awareness ribbons Brain cancer has a mortality rate of 4.5 per 100,000 An estimated 35% of adults living with a brain tumor will live 5 years or longer.
