Transcript: CD digipack By Ben Wesley. CD front cover. This is my front CD cover for Lion O'Brien. The measurements of my CD cover are: the front is - 4.78 x 4.78 - inches and the back is - 5.95 x 4.73 - inches. This is my CD back cover for Lion O'Brien. I used the same images on the back cover as I did on the front because it follows the theme, and it also will remind the audience of who the band were whilst at the same time not confusing them, I felt if I did not put the same images on the back cover as I did the front, my audience may not like it. My target audience prefer a sense of familiarity, they like what they have seen before. So I re-used the images to fit in with this. I used the same text and font also to follow the theme and to fit with what my audience liked. I used the bright colours in order to stand out from the crowd and to catch the eye of the audience. The bright also work with the theme of the album, as the band and their music are quite light and happy, and I feel that the bright colours reflect this. I used the lion head because it links with the name of the band. I feel that the target audience will identify with it because the lion's head may show that the music is risk taking and on the edge, just like a lion is, and this may encourage them to buy the CD. It is also in bright colours which will also catch the eye of the audience and may encourage them to buy it. I used a ukulele guitar because it will symbolize to the audience what style of music that the band play. I got a cartoon ukulele guitar from Google, but I decided that it wasn't good enough so I used it as a template to create the orange one in paint. To give it a 3D effect and to make it stand to the audience, I created a second ukulele guitar and made it darker in colour, then put the orange on top. I used the colour orange for two reasons. 1. It will catch the eye of the audience and may encourage them to buy it. 2. It fits in with the mane of the lion. I used the sun and cloud symbols because it will link into the song that the band sings. Due to the size, I had to make them the brightest colour I could. Although the images are linked to the songs, I don't think that the audience will get that until they have listened to the album. But I thought I would put them on the cover as a bit of a mystery or as an Easter Egg. For the text, I decided to do a sketchy design, this will appeal to the audience because, my research shows that it will have a familiar feel to when the audience were young and wrote in a font similar to this. I also chose this font because it had a fun feel to it, so I am trying to bring across the feel that the songs by this band will be light and fun. I chose the red because I felt the band name was the most important thing on the cover, the blue because that would be the second most important thing and the blue because it's the least important. Nevertheless, I chose bright colours as they stand out and should hopefully grab the audiences attention. I chose the image of the mountain because I feel it connotes strength and durability. I believe that that symbol of the mountain will show the audience, that this band is going from strength to strength, getting better and better and should hopefully be around for a long time. Hopefully making them think that will get them to buy the CD, because they will want to be the first to hear new music of this type, or so my research suggests. I placed the ukulele guitar and the lion's head on top of the mountain to show that the band are 'on top of their game, and that they are the best band around right now. Lastly, for the title of the CD, I decided it would be a good idea to have a more serious font. This is to connote to the audience that, yes; the band is fun and lighthearted, but at the same time, they can have a more serious side. I chose the colour black, to once again emphasize the more serious side of the band, but I also chose it because the audience eyes will be drawn to it because they will hopefully think 'Why is this serious font amongst the fun and silliness?' and they this encourage them to buy the album in order to find out. CD inside left and right cover. For this I changed the background colour from white to blue, because I felt that the audience may find the white too boring and could like the album because of it. I know that my research shows that my audience do not like a change but I do not think the simple change colour will matter too much. In fact, I think they may like it as it is a welcome surprise. Also, I put in blue because I felt this apart from the CD cover. I put the lion’s head on the left side, just so it fit in with the theme. It was also to show that the CD was by this band, and I re-used the font, again to fit in with the theme and the fact that my audience don’t like change. But the primary reason for this is to show who the band are. I used the blue again so the inside looks the same, and it make the design look smoother. I felt that

Transcript: Evaluation - A2 Media I was very comfortable with the process behind creating the ancillary task, as i am a keen photographer and am very comfortable with using photoshop. The digipak, CD cover and magazine advert were created before my video, which gave me a clear vision of what i wantedmy finished product (as a whole) to look like. This allowed the video to take place and i could model it onto the ancillary task without forcing them together. Creating the Video The digipak, CD cover and magazine afvert all had to match the theme of the music video. This meant that even though the photography used was 'abstract', the theme would be carried throughout the task. Conventions of CD and Digipaks DigiPak Q2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks? Creating the digipak and magazine advert How successful was the creation of the video? How successful was the creation of the ancillary task? The video was quite difficult to create. I had to use a variety of effects and techniques to bring the standard of the product up, this meant that i had to leave behind the processes that i was comfortable with. I wanted to create a video that linked to the theme of travelling, being wanted and feeling alone. This prompted me to use the beach as a main location for filming, this is because I personally always feel a sense of belonging on the beach. I also wanted to create a link between the black and white used on the CD cover, didgipak and magazine advert.
