Meriadoc "Merry" Brandybuck is a Hobbit of the Shire and a kinsman to both Peregrin "Pippin" Took and Frodo Baggins. Merry (along with Pippin and Frodo's servant Samwise Gamgee) accompanied Frodo on the journey to take the One Ring of Sauron to Rivendell for safe-keeping and after as one of the Companions of the Ring

Smeagol became Gollum after he was consumed with the ring

As he got caught up in his desire for power, he was ensnared by Sauron using the Palantir of Isengard. Saruman decided to betray his duties, and aid Sauron, though his real intentions were to take the ring for himself and overthrow Sauron, taking all the power for himself. He changed his robes at this point, and was known as Saruman of many colours.

Grima Wormtongue was King Theoden's councellor. He was an aid of Saramaun.
