As a group you have to compile a fact sheet about the Olympic Games. It MUST include the following:
Dr. Brookes copied the sports which were in the Olympics held in Athens in 1859 in future Wenlock Olympian Games (Brookes created this first as a class in 1850 and then as an event in 1856.). In 1866, a national Olympic Games in Great Britain was organized by Dr. Brookes at London's Crystal Palace.
The Ancient Olympic Games was a series of competitions held between representatives of several city-states and kingdoms from Ancient of Greece, which featured mainly athletic but also combat and chariot racing events.
The origin of these Olympics is shrouded in mystery and legend. The most widely accepted date for the beginning of the Ancient Olympics is 776 BC; this is based on inscriptions, found at Olympia, of the winners of a footrace held every four years starting in 776 BC.
The Ancient Games featured running events, a pentathlon (consisting of a jumping event, discus and javelin throws, a foot race and wrestling), boxing, wrestling, and equestrian events.
In 1890, after attending the Olympian Games of the Wenlock Olympian Society, Baron Pierre de Coubertin created the International Olympic Committee. Coubertin built on the ideas and work of Brookes and Zappas with the aim of creating an Olympic Games that would occur every four years in a different country

Why do countries bid for the Olympics?
Countries bid for the Olympic games to be held in their country for many reasons, mainly it is to show power and wealth, if a country wins the bids for the Olympic games it then automatically increases the political power within the country.
Why do countries bid for the Olympics?
National Olympic Committees select from within their national territory cities to put forward bids to host an Olympic Games.
Typically, the decision is made at an IOC Session approximately seven years prior to the games; for example the 2012 Summer Olympics were awarded to London on 6 July 2005, and the 2016 Summer Olympics were awarded to Rio de Janeiro on 2 October 2009.
Throughout history the Games have always been interlinked with politics. As a result, in many cases the political events surrounding the games have often overshadowed the sporting achievements of the game themselves.
The Olympic Games have long been used as a political tool, especially as a tool of global publicity and to give a good political image or to show the country’s superiority.
There have often been political or social issues surrounding the Olympic Games involving lots of debate and when a countries conditions are not met, they usually withdrew from the competition as a sign of protest.
An example of this was in the 1980 games held in Moscow where the United States boycotted the Games.
The Olympic Games are one of the most effective international marketing platforms in the world, reaching billions of people in over 200 countries and territories throughout the world.
