HDTV has twice linear resolution of standard TV

Greater detail

1 - 2 million pixels per frame

Can handle different resolutions without effecting the quality of the image

This means that the films can be viewed

in 3 dimensions, which therefor means

that the audience feels more involved.

A 3D film is filmed with 3 lenses and

the audience has to wear glasses to watch

it.

New Technologies

CGI

Cameras

Lucas Films

This stands for Computer Generated Imagery.

It is used in stunts and makes the action seem

more realistic, making the experience better for

the audience.

Analogue camera's, which were used before digital was introduced, worked by exposing light to a photographic film in order to take a picture. For analogue films, this process happens many times a second therefore blending many images into one, creating the film.

Editing software

First digital film: Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (1999).

Avid digital editing is used by Universal Studios.

The software used by Universal includes:

•Avid Nitris DX (Mac) Systems

•Avid Adrenaline (Mac and PC) Systems

•Avid Media Composer 9000XL Meridien (Mac) Systems

•Pro Tools

•Fibre Storage and Unity

Editing footage makes it smoother.

This means that therefore the audience

can watch the film in a better quality.

It is used in every film and the BBC use

a programme called Avid.

In 1999 the cameras used in films

changed to digital.

An example of a film that used

CGI was Polar Express. This was

made in 2004 by Castle Rock Entertainment

and was the first film in which motion

capture was made for all of the actors.
