There is a lot of achive material used throughout the documentary. For example there was a lot of footage taken from British music awards ceremony, there were various images of meatloaf and other famous music stars from over the world, this built up excitement and thrill for the audience to make them carry on watching. There was also footage from an old film, that meatloaf was in, adding more interest to the documentary. There was also various parts of the music videos "bat out of Hell" and "I'd do anything fo love" played through out the documentary to add depth. There was also footage of one of Mr. Blobby's music video, and of the village people, which was shown closer to the end of the documentary

The documentary used graphic in a very cleaver way, as in the beginning of the documentary, in the opening sequence, There was an image of a fake magazine with the title of the documentary placed at the top, and there was also a montage of different footage played. Another example would be when people where being interviewed white, bold, writing popped up, showing the name of who is talking, and the logo would also pop up at the same time.

Camerawork

There i a lot of different camerawork used in the documentary, for example, in the opening section, at the British music awards, there is a lot of hand held camerawork, this is done on purpose to make the audience feel like they are there watching. Another example would be, the long shot of meatloaf on stage and then cuts-aways to the large crowd that watches him as he talks. There is also unusual camera work used as the camera films someone else film an interview, making it seem relaxed and less formal. Thee are also many close ups used throughout the documenatry, for example, there is a close up of Meatloaf's face as the make up artists are getting him ready for his video shoot.

Sound

The sound is very important to the documentary, however its main focus is music related. Firstly, there is a voice over, who narrates to the audience what is going on, this is know as the 'voice of god' it is played by what sounds like a middle aged man, and he is quite sarcastic in certain parts of the documentary. There is also a lot of non-diegetic sound used to add drama and excitement for the audience, for example, Meatloaf's music is played through out the documentary, to add to the excitement, is it also played whilst changing scene. there is also operatic music played which is very juxtaposed tot he rest of the music as it is mostly rock.

In the opening of the documentary, the main focus is on the British music awards, and the audience is introduced to other celebrities. Then meatloaf walks on stage and the scene changes and we then focus mostly on him. There is a non-liner structure which focuses on meatloaf battle to become popular again, there is also a focus on the village people towards the end, and a little about the number one.

Editing

There is a lot of editing use, and it is used to add depth and drama to the documentary. There is a montage of various shots of celebrities in posters, at the beginning of the documentary. During the interviews that take place in front of the green screen, the people dissolve and in, making it look mysterious.

Themes

The main focus in the documentary is music, as it is Meatloaf's battle to be popular in the music business. It is also about the marketing side of music and the power of the media, and how the media can manipulate a persons mind.

Mise-en-scene

Throughout the documentary there are many interviews, many of meatloaf, which are all informal and very relaxed. There are also interviews with people who are put in front of a green screen, with meatloaf playing in the background. There are also many shots taken place outside for example when meatloaf is being interviewed before his music video outside, it is quite sunny and bright, lifting the mood.

Type of documentary

The documentary is a mixed documentary, as it uses a variety of achieve material, for example, short clips from music videos. There is also a narrative structure, with a lot of factual information. There was a wide range of different camerawork and editing used to add variety and drama to the documentary. The documentary also had a voice over for narrator know as the 'voice of God'.
