Standard Form

Ax + By = C

This is given on the formula chart

Example Problem:

Ax + By = C

3x - 2y = -12

3x - 2y = -12

Isolate y.

In other words, get the variable y all by itself

3x - 2y = -12

Step 1

Subtract 3x from both sides

3x -2y = -12

-3x -3x Step 1 Subtract 3x

-2y = -3x - 12

3x - 2y = -12

-3x -3x Step 1 Subtract 3x

-2y = -3x - 12

Next Step: Divide both sides by -2

3x - 2y = -12

-3x -3x Step 1 Subtract 3x

-2y = -3x -12

- 2 -2 -2 Step 2 Divide by -2

y = 3/2x + 6

y = 3/2x + 6

y-intercept is 6 with a slope of 3/2 (Up 3, right 2)

Slope - Intercept Form: y = 3/2x + 6

Standard Form: 2x - 3y = -12
