Huey Newton and Bobby Seale Found the Black Panther Party in 1966.

The Black Panther Party is a pro- black/ minority race.

They were started in the Oakland, California, but spread throughout the

United States. The Black Panther party was prominent through the "Black Power"

movement.

Black Panther's Hold a public speech in 1967.

Bobby Seale speaks on the Ten Point System.

Ten Point System:

1. We Want Freedom. We Want Power To Determine

The Destiny Of Our Black Community.

2. We Want Full Employment For Our People.

3. We Want An End To The Robbery

By The Capitalists Of Our Black Community.

4. We Want Decent Housing Fit For The Shelter Of Human Beings.

5. We Want Education For Our People That Exposes

The True Nature Of This Decadent American Society.

We Want Education That Teaches Us Our True History

And Our Role In The Present-Day Society.

6. We Want All Black Men To Be Exempt From Military Service.

7. We Want An Immediate End To

Police Brutality And Murder Of Black People.

8. We Want Freedom For All Black Men

Held In Federal, State, County And City Prisons And Jails.

9. We Want All Black People When Brought To Trial To Be Tried In

Court By A Jury Of Their Peer Group Or People From Their Black

Communities, As Defined By The Constitution Of The United States.

10. We Want Land, Bread, Housing, Education,

Clothing, Justice And Peace.

At the time, president of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover deems the Black Panther Party as, "the greatest threat to the internal security of the country." In 1967 He issues the COINTELPRO act.

Fred Hampton, through the Black Panther Party, establishes free breakfast for children in 1969.

Chuck D, lead rapper from hip hop group, Public Enemy

is fed through the Free Breakfast Program as a child.

In 1975, Fred Hampton's home is raided by the FBI at night and is shot to death under the COINTELPRO program. The Black Panther Party is outraged and take to the streets.

Dec. 6th 1974, the Black Panthers take to the streets of Oakland to march in honor of Fred Hampton.

Huey Newton, like many other Americans during the 70's, become

addicted to crack/cocaine. This addiction leads to his downfall and

has a major affect on the Black Panther Party.

Black Panther Party has internal conflicts. Huey Newton sells some of his female members off for money to buy cocaine. On August 22, 1989 Huey Newton is found shot dead outside of a crack house in Oakland.

Black Enterprise puts the New Black Panther

Party on the cover of their magazine. The story depicts the controversy behind the new organization.

African American Art Museum opens an exhibit that showcases the history of the Black Panther Party.

Louis Farakhan holds a march in honor of the

achievements of the Black Panther Party and

the accomplishments of Huey Newton.

After the original Black Panther Party relapses,

the New Black Panther Party was created in 1990.

This group is more radical than the

previous one and focuses more on the

"protect whats ours" aspect of the policy.

It does not follow the Marxism concepts that

the original Black Panther Party practiced.

COINTELPRO is a progam used by the FBI to disrupt major Black organizations and leaders.
