Migration

Adaptations and Migration

The center of scientists studies have been on maples and buckeyes for various reasons.

Adaptation

Migration

Adaptation is very important in the lives of trees. Some trees like the ones in Australia have adapted to survive bushfires. Other trees may have thick, leathery leaves to help them suffer less wilting in very hot and sunny conditions.

Studies show that trees are moving north due to global warming; at a rate of 62 miles a century.

Trees

Another way a tree adapts to its environment is that it turns toward sunlight. Palm trees are adapted to very hot and dry places like the desert. One way palm trees adapt is having very long roots to search deep into the ground for water.

Trees are producers; meaning they make products that we need, like oxygen.

Trees take in 48 pounds of carbon dioxide in one year and make enough oxygen to supply 2 people.

1 acre of trees supplies enough oxygen for 18 people.

Economical Gains

Fraser Fir trees are a huge industry here in Alleghany County. We ship trees to places all aroung the United States. We also use trees to make paper and pencils. Trees also help to lower your heating and air costs.
