The use of clothing within this trailer, is very
representative of the genre that they are potraying. Also it is representing that of an average person, meaning this could be targeting everyone as an audience. The use of special effects and props like fake blood and such make the antagonists within the trailer appear more apparent as a zombie or the undead as they are trying to potray. The clothing and mise-en-scene is one of the best factors for a director to play around with and represent the genre they are portraying, so that is possible something for me to consider.
The use of cinematography is very varied within the
trailer, I think this is done, so as to give the impression
of confusion and some excitement in the audience. Also the variety of shots makes it easier for the audience to take in certain factors within the trailer such as the clothing, also it gives a more realistic impression at times. The use of different methods of camera angles and shots means that it reveals more to the audience, when the director wishes it to.
The narrative within this trailer plays with the ideas of Levi Strouse with the characters within the trailer all playing a specific role such as the main character playing the hero. The narrative in my eyes is structured in the way Todorov, so that the starts with original equilbium, followed by the distruption of that equilbirum, then the characters looking for a new equilbrium and so on. This is a basic structure of a narrative, which means that maybe all trailers should follow this trend, including my own, as it will make the audience feel more comfortable.
The sound within this trailer is very focused on
small snippets of conversation only, maybe
meaning trailers like my own, who are appealing
to this genre need to have a lack of conversation.
The trailer seems to play on sound effects as it
heightens the protagonists cries of pain, or screams
so as to showcase the fact this is a horror/thriller,
this is a good idea for my own trailer, as I can play
with sound and music to enhance the emotions
within the trailer.
The use of special effects is something that I
can't do as necessarily well as a professional
product, due to lack of resources in that part.
But transitions between scenes are a must have
for the trailer, as it makes the trailer seem more
professional and means the scenes flow better between each other. This trailer has also made use of negative connotations in this trailer, with the use of a special effect to make the scene appear red and black in detail, which also clues the audience in on the genre of the film as it is a very violent colour.
For my costume I tried to make my clothing both applicable to the audience and
the genre, to do this I used my friends as an example as to what to base the costume on, due to them being a similair age to my audience. To make the some of the clothing applicable to the genre and the storyline I had to play around with ideas, but for the antagonist i settled on the idea of a hood, as it has negative connotations of violence for many people and would therefore have the audience knowing that that character is the antagonist, but also adding a sense of mystery to the character, therefore intriguing the audience, as is the purpose of a trailer.
Cinematography within my trailer is very mixed, I tried to
use different camera shots so as to give a different perspective to certain scenes as well as to make certain factors more apparent within the shot. The variety in camera shots, was also a way of me making emotion more apparent within the trailer, as with the fast paced bit in the trailer the variety of shots, gives the trailer a sense of confusion which is applicabble to the genre.
For the narrative, I based it on Todorov's theory and aimed to
influence the audience to become more intrigued with a familair narrative, but a different storyline and difference in the usual characters, such as the fact that the protagonist isn't the hero in the trailer, but is the one at the mercy of the antagonist, which may give the audience something in a familair way, therefore intriguing them.
I also tried to make the characters as applicable to the audience and genre as possible, by the use of narrative, by starting the trailer, in a party scene, as that is very applicable to the audiences own life, since they are of similair age, as I am myself, i then built from there into some faster paced scenes so as to get the audience more excited, then a ended with a cliffhanger ending, so the audience would be left in the dark and want to know what is going on.
For the sound I tried to use a combination of voice-overs,
music and enhanced sound to potray the genre in my film,
this meant me including key conversations, but mostly just
the use of voiceovers and enhanced sounds, such as the
scream at the end alongside the voiceover over the title
sequence
The special effects within my trailer was inspired by all professional products, as it was very minimalist in that I only include transitions between scenes, as special effects, these were varied depending on were the transition was and how it would heighten the suspense, such as with the heavy breathing scene at the end, I thought the transition on the exhale of the antagonist, made a supenseful feeling.
