When Picasso was 19 he moved to Paris. At this point he was still copying the work of other great artists of his time. Some people feel his style was like that of Van Gogh or Monet.
Picasso became very famous during his lifetime. In 1937 Spain was involved in a civil war and the small town of Guernica was destroyed by bombs and thousands of innocent people were killed and injured. He used his fame to speak out on how he felt about the war.
Picasso began painting when he was just a child.
His father was an art teacher and began encouraging him when he was very young. At that time, it was important for artists to create art that looked like real life.

Picasso is considered the most influential painters of the 20th century. He created many techniques and used styles that many criticized at first.
Picasso continued to paint throughout his life. He lived to be 91 and lived life to the fullest until the very end. In fact, he actually passed away at a dinner party he and his wife were hosting.

Picasso's Blue Period ended when he fell in love. He started using happier colors and did many paintings of the circuses he attended regularly.

When Picasso's best friend dies, his style changes dramatically. He begins a set of monochromatic paintings, and this period in his life becomes known as the Blue Period.
Cubism was the next style of painting that Picasso developed. Cubism is a style which starts with a real subject and breaks it up into parts until it is almost unrecognizable.
