It is ART.
But what is art?
“Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer
with which to shape it.” –Bertolt Brecht
Video/film is a lens, a path through which information passes and is transformed. It allows us to see our world through different perspectives and stories.
For most of the history of film and video, professional and high quality equipment has been out of reach for amateur, young, and low-income people. Many stories have been left out of the field of video/film production and art.
The Channel Islands Student Video and Film Collective is a group on campus that serves to educate C.I. students about video and film concepts, production, analysis.
It strives to empower students to make their own films by giving them the tools, equipment, and knowledge necessary to tell and share their own documentary, narrative, or experimental works of video and film art.
Through weekly workshops, non-mandatory assignments, community events and screenings, the collective will build student artists, leaders, and contribute to the larger community.
