Narrative

Music & Sound

Even though the matrix is not a horror film, we made the link between technology and some of the features of their iconic and unforgetable visuals. we decided to keep it green instead of changing it to red as we thought that the read was more about mutilation killings and stabbing rather than the approach we were taking to horror.

We have used the same font from out trailer on our magazine cover

Masthead has been changed in colour from empires traditional colouring.

  • atmopsheric suspence music
  • loud bangs and crashes within the soundclip used create a jumpy mood
  • screams
  • in terms of Todrov's narrative theory, our synopsis/plot follows the equilibrium-disturbance-equilibrium pattern. However, our trailer is mostly disturbance to emphasise the horror element of the film.
  • We have tried not to follow Propp's character theory as we believe that it is a dated theory, especially as it is based on folk/fairy tales
  • we are using urbanised charatcers, to emphasise the street/urban element of the storyline and to make the film as realistic to the real life events as possible
  • innocent girls are made un-innocent due to the events in the storyline
  • Our main character "Danni" is our final girl, as spoken about in Carol J. Clovers 1987 essay "Her body, himself: Gender in the slasher film"

both sound clips that we used we found on youtube

a plug which features our final girl found on all magazines.

Iconography

inspiration taken from the V for Vandeta Total film cover

The use of the anarchy symbol is consistant throughout all 3 products.

  • we have not used an iscolated setting as we feel that to make the story seem more real it need to be somewhere that the audience can relate to
  • shadowy lighting on the hanging body and using dimmer and darker shots creates a haunting and costraphobic atmosphere to the shots
  • blood
  • shadows
  • darkness
  • crosscutting for suspence and to build up confusion to the plot
  • faster cutting for violent scenes and to build up suspence
  • point of view shots for those being watched
  • hand held shots for intimate scenes and to make shots seem more realistic

When it came to creating our promotional magazine we decided that we wanted to follow nearly all of the conventions of the real media product as we know that the conventions are there for a purpose and sell the magazine.

However, we did make our magazine a special edition of Empire as this allowed us to change their colour scheme.

our title was inspired by the "Diary of the Dead " title. The layout puts emphasis on the words Broadcast and Damned.

we only used a small number of traditional horror icons as we wanted our film to be different to your average slasher film

Magazine

Research

I have used programmes, social networking sites and other online websites to both build my knowledge of theorys realating to the horror genre, experience and research into the horror icon timeline and to find out what my target audience wants from my product. I found using survey monkey through social networking sites such as facebook and twitter extremely valuable as it allows me to recieve information from such a wide audience due to web 2.0.

Construction

Planning

  • Continous colour schemes
  • continour use of same font
  • title of film uses same text
  • continuosly showing technology
  • Anarchy symbol is used throughout all three media products
  • audience feedback showed that they all recognised that the products linked and were about the same thing. the audience showed particular interest to the poster.

when planning out what we were going to do and how we used blackberry messenger, facebook and email to stay in contact and keep everyone in our group up to date on our progress.

Dafont.com allowed us to find a font that would fit our synopsis perfectly. This website allowed us to compare and decide on what fonts to use.

Microsoft Excell was used to create our shot and prop lost for when we started shooting our footage.

We used powerpoint and slideshare to create and put together our storyboard which made it easier for us to upload to our blogger were we logged all of our planning progress. This also helped us when referring back to our storyboard during construction.

We found the music clip we used in our trailer on youtube, we then used an online source called ZamZar to convert the video into an MP3 file which made it easier for us to use in Adobe Premier Pro.

Programmes such as Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe Photoshop allowed us to edit photographs, build both our magazine front cover and our poster, edit footage and sound-clips and finally build our trailer.
