GENRES

The four major genres of writing are Fiction, Non-Fiction, Drama and Peotry.

Fiction

imaginary stories icluding short story, novel and novella.

Short Story - ranges from less then a page to several dozen pages

Novel - a long work of fiction that has more complex plots, characters, and situations then a short story.

Novellas - longer than short stories but not long enough to be considered a novel.

NON-FICTION

opposite of fiction; factual stories including textbooks, newspapers, manuals, journals and memoirs

DRAMA

stories written to be preformed like plays, movies, and television. They can be sad, funny, mysterious, scary or a combination

POETRY

made up of short lines formed into stanzas. Devices such as rhyme are used in poetry.

a kind of literary work, defined by its form, style, or content
