Remember...

Cyberbullying can sometimes bleed into their real lives. It hurts! If children can protect themselves online, the goal is accomplished.

Why is it important to promote and teach digital citizenship to your students?

Cyberbullying is not a one time thing! It is usually repeated over and over, gaining more fire as it continues. Children should be able to learn to identify cyberbullying so they can protect themselves and others!

Cyberbullying

"Cyberbullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.

In these cases, it's important that you know how to react to these bullies, not join the hate or become one yourself!

To those in Elementary years...

...it's very important to learn. Children at the age of six are now going online. And whether they are chatting with friends or just surfing the web, it's crucial they learn how to behave!

Predators

Online predators could be anywhere, and it is vital that we teach our children to not give out personal information and react the right way if the other person wants to meet up.

To make sure these rules stick:

You never know if someone is who they say they are!

What is digital citizenship?

  • Keep the rules next to the classroom computer(s) at all times.
  • Give the student a copy to take home and go over with their parents.
  • Emphasize the importance of their safety (and others!)

There are other issues, too!

Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship...

...is basically teaching users the rules of good citizenship
