In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The Truth Is...

Conclusion

My title sequence both reflects and challenges the conventions of Romantic Comedies. The narrative of my title sequence is similar to many media products of my chosen genre. The plot of my product is about a teenage girl who is popular in her school, who befriends and fall sin love with a boy who is seen as an outsider to her friends and students. She ignore all the comments and actions of her friends and falls in love with the boy. A majority of Romantic Comedies are set in or around secondary schools/ high schools. For example the award winning film ' The Princess Diaries' is also filmed around a high school. The film is about an average teenage girl who is sweet, a little and geeky finds out she a princess of the land of her late father. She dates and falls in love with her long crush. It is elements of this film and may other Romantic Comedies that I want to highlight on in my title sequence.

Overall, I believe that the elements used in my media product, are a pleasure to audience as 'Realism' is a convention used through the sequence which is not shown in allot of Romantic Comedies. Also I believe it also makes this product more interesting and unique as it not typical of the genre.

Furthermore, The Truth Is... also challenges one of the conventions of Romantic Comedies ( appearance/ costume) . I decided to pick actors who would not be typically casted for a film of this genre. I decided to change their appearance as I wanted to show that not all Romantic Comedies have to have 'Hunk' or a girl with a certain body shape, hair colour etc. I want the audience to be able to relate with the product and feel comfortable watching the film/title sequence. As I feel that many of Romantic Comedies do not conform to the lives of modern day society.

Romantic comedies are films with light-hearted, humorous plotlines, centered on romantic ideals such as that true love is able to surmount most obstacles. Dictionary definition is "a funny movie, play, or television program about a love story that ends happily". Romantic comedy films have features of comedy films as well as of romance films, and may have elements of screwball comedies.
