Resources For Help

Think Before You Post

The overall goal is to help you understand how you project yourself to the world on the Internet. If you ever find yourself feeling unsafe, targeted or threatened online, please talk to an adult that you trust and feel comfortable with.

  • Things that you post online can have severe consequences.
  • Although you may not think it, your teachers and principals are legally allowed to get involved in any sort of conflict online.
  • They may address it and issue punishments

If I Delete something, it's gone right?

Even if you delete something off of the internet or off your phone/computer, that doesn't mean it's gone forever.

On the internet, people can screenshot your post and repost it for the world to see.

On a phone/computer, if you delete something, such as a picture, it doesn't get permanently deleted. There are ways to recover hard drives to see deleted files.

In March 2009, 22 year old Conner Riley was offered a job at Cisco. Her first instinct was to tweet about it, which is a common thing to do for her generation. However she tweeted about how she hates the work she'd have to do, and an employee from Cisco showed the hiring manager the tweet. She lost the job before it even started.

Kristy Hammonds and Michael Setzer former Domino's employees posted a youtube video of themselves tampering with food and then serving it to domino's customers. They claimed the video was a harmless prank, however it was a serious matter. In the end they were both fired from Domino's, the store was shut down to be sanitized, and they faced criminal charges.
