For my media coursework my task was to produce a music magazine for the genre of my choice. We had to use www.blogger.com to keep our progress and our work on. Whilst doing my coursework I have learned to use photoshop, set up and use a blog and also create a magazine using pictures I have took. In this evaluation I am producing on www.prezi.com, I have been set 7 questions that I am going to answer during this presentation.
Forms and conventions of magazines come in a limited range of formats with repeated and recognisable features. For example, NME,Q magazine and Rolling Stones all use a certain feature or logo to make their product identifiable to the audience. I have made a logo for my magazine that would be placed on the top left hand corner of all the magazines produced, this would become recognisable and would be known to the audience. I was influenced by Q magazine, as they have a similar masthead and I think it is very recognisable and audience's see it and know what it is straight away.
Here are some from other music magazines I have found:
Question two...
The genre I picked to base my magazine on is Indie, I chose Indie because I like the music and also the style and fashion. Also, I have used bright colours to define Indie on my mood board. I also done this on my front cover, contents page and my double page spread. As I wanted it to stand out and appeal to a youthful audience, beacause if my magazine was plain with lack of colour and pictures, it would not be read. It is important to make your product saleable as this is how your product will be a success.
Question three...
I think that my magazine could be published and sold in shops if Beauer media group would distribute it. This company distributes music magazines such as Q magazine and Kerrang. I think my magazine would sell and become popular as it has interveiws, top song lists, photos, competitions etc. And this is similar to what published music magazines have in theirs.
I would try and sell my magazine to big distributers so my magazine would be in the shops and available to a wide audience, or I would try and distribute it around Liverpool and advertise it in newspapers, other magazines or on the internet.
Question Four...
Who would be the audience for your media product?
I have tried to make my magazine apeal to a young generation
who are interested in Indie music, I think anyone will enjoy reading my magazine but my target audience is a youthful, energetic one that go to festivals, gigs, concerts etc.
In my magazine I have used stars like Lilly Allen, Pixxie Lott and Florence and the machine. I think these artists apeal to a young audience, and as my magazine is aimed at a youthfull age group I think they were a good choice. Also the fashion will attract a young audience as they will want to know what fashions in, following thier favourite stars. I have also mentioned in my magaizne about upcoming gigs ands concerts which are social events and apeal to a big age group.
Question five...
How did you attract/address your audience?
To attract my audience I decided to stick with the comformities of other artists and their styles, for example my insperation for my front cover image was that of Pixxie Lott.
I wanted my magazine to look fresh and appeal to the Audience intended, I think my magazine will stand out and will be popular. I used popular artists and made my front cover look busy and made my contents page full of information etc.
Question six...
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
During the time that I have been producing my coursework I have learnt how to use Adobe Photoshop, Now I can edit photographs to change the look. I can take colour out or put colour in which I have done with a few different photos, here are some examples:
Question Seven...
Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
My preliminary task was to design a music magazine, of my choice and decide what genre I wanted it to be.I had to get actors to agree to be in my photos and find a place to take them, to put together my magazine I had to research and plan.
This is my front cover and I got my ideas from Q magazine, I looked at a range of Q magazines, and found out what they put in their magazine, for example I looked at interveiws, competitions, lists of gigs/concerts, and this gave me my ideas about what ot put in my magazine to make it appeal to my audience.
Here is the front cover of Q magazine.
I feel I have made progression from when I made my collage magazine and I feel more
confident and I am happy with my final product. I dont think I could have made a magazine
like my final one, if I had not practised what to do use and do, (Photoshop, Indesign and
researching other music magazines and collage magazines.
I feel that my magazine has the ability to be a sucessful product in shops and like, Q, Kerrang, Rolling Stone, Top of the pops, NME etc, could sell to a wide audience and become very popular.
I hope you have enjoyed my presentation
