Spray-On Antenna

By: Anna Junker and Meredith Bates

Telephone poles may become fast outdated as Spray-On Antennas could quickly replace them

How does this effect us?

The Spray-On Antenna can be sprayed anywhere at anytime to strengthen a signal. This means many different things. On one level, this means that we can have unlimited band width for wireless internet and phone reception by about 10%. School computers will be faster which could mean more time working rather than waiting for something to load. Data on a cell phone would not be an extra charge because there is no limit to band width. If you were driving down the highway in the middle of nowhere and you car breaks down, you wouldn't have to worry about whether you have reception or not.

How does this effect us cont'd..

Spray-On Antenna can be used on organic material and even underwater. The Spray-On Antenna has been sprayed on trees, turning them into antennas, having a signal up to a 14 mile radious. This could potentially save lives. An example would be if a storm appeared when on a battlefield, the commanders can still get a hold of their soldiers and the other way around if they need help. It can also be used underwater. This technology can then be used by weather and oceanographic researchers, as well as underwater welders.

What is it?

How would it effect the environment?

In truth, no one really knows how this effects the environment. They don't know if it depletes over time, or if the depletion could hurt the environment, however this could mean the removal of all cell towers. With no cell towers, it could not only save millions of dollars but also get rid of the pollution involved in making the metal for the towers, putting the towers up and keeping them maintained. On the other hand, the aerosol can would impact the environment in a negative way because aerosol cans use CFC's which depletes the ozone. If this was used on a common basis, it could be a likely possibility that the aerosol cans could hurt the environment.

What are Nanocapacitors?

How does the Spray-On Antenna Work?

Spray-On Antenna is a new type of nano technology. Created by Chamtech Enterprises, it is an aerosol can that sprays nanocapacitors on any surface to boost the reception in the area.

Nanocapacitors are small cells that are capable of enery storage, recharging and transmission of energy. They self-assemble themselves into a set pattern that is determined by their local interactions. Nanocapacitors offer high power and large storage. They collect power efficiently and are able to store power taken from wind turbines and solar panels that conventional storage capacitors were not able to do efficiently or have the right capacity. Nanocapacitors are used in many forms of nanotechnology and are fast becoming a widely used technology.

The aerosol can sprays on thousands of nanocapacitors onto a surface. They align themselves in a certain order so that they can charge and discharge quickly. It work by charging when the radio wave comes in, changes the wave to electrical energy, and then discharges for the next wave and repeats the process. As the antenna charges and discharges, it produces very, very little heat.

Our Personal Opinion

Society and Technology: Now and the Future

I believe that this could be an extremely good idea if it could be done without aerosol cans. I also believe that it should have more testing to see the long term effects on the environment.

-Meredith

I believe that this technology could be extremely useful if used in the right circumstances. There is not much to go on on how the technology works as it was created by a government company and so not many details have been released for security purposes. If we knew more about how it would impact us and the enivornment, I think it would be useful, but until we know more I do not think it should be used on a daily basis.

-Anna

The creation of the Spray-On Antenna may have a huge impact on technology as we know it. We are now able to get a wireless signal from anywhere in the world without cell phone towers. This means endless ways to communicate. Also from the creation of the Spray-On Antenna, we have just opened the door into new technology that is able to be used on organic material such as trees and still be able to work. It is surprisingly efficient and very useful to all fields of work from military to weather researchers, to just a regular person driving on a highway. In an age of instant communication this technology can be very powerful if used correctly and it opens doors to ideas of technology we never thought were possible before.
