Birdy-Skinny Love

Editing

We imported all clips so we had a large canvas to work on.

With this we could select random bits from any clip we liked.

We got the old film effect by using after effects

and put this on the whole film it had a constant “homemade video” feel throughout.

This makes you feel connected to the characters throughout the narrative shots, and in the singing shots makes you feel as though it’s still her real life.

The tape and lettering was achieved by sticking tape onto paper and writing on them in marker pen, we then scanned them in and took away the back ground then super imposed them on to random parts of our film.

This gives it even more of an edge to the vintage feel and over exaggerates it.

To get this sepia tone we simply changed the colouring on Premiere before putting it in after effects.

Making it feel even more home video like and as sepia is an old colour used in the past

It tells the audience that this happy time was in the past.

To get it black and white, we once again used Premiere to simply change the colour

After getting the desired colours we decided that all the “bad times” should be put in black and white to show clear definition from the good times and the artist shots.

To have the two shots blending into one another so there was a smooth transition; in Premiere we overlapped the shots slightly then used a cross fade on both.

These blends have a connotation that it could possibly still be in her memory and she is only just letting it slip out as she is singing.

Here we used a cross fade on Premiere to make a smooth transition after the hand goes over the camera.

This could show that he is pushing their love away, as we are half way through the video this makes the audience realise that he doesn’t want the relationship either.

However this is during a happy time, suggesting that they were fake smiles.

Here a jump cut is used to show that something happened in-between her walking into the bath room and him fighting with her.

This made the clip less lengthy and more interesting so the audience knew something was going on.

We originally wanted a clear shot of him doing some drugs but when we reviewed the sort of artist this is, and who the video would appeal to, we decided against the idea as it wouldn’t be appropriate for day time TV.

To get this effect we edited it all in after effects,

by showing a clip of her walking to the ocean on top of which we put the video going back in time

To do that we had to take the whole video into after effect, reverse it and speed it up

This created the feeling that as she was walking away she remembered everything about the good and bad in the relationship.

I hope from the editing that the overall meaning is clear.

That she is walking away from the good, even when it's bad.

This promotes the artist as the video ends on a positive note.
