STEM Fair Committee

What is STEM?

STEM education is an approach to teaching and learning that integrates the content and skills of science, technology, engineering, and math (MSDE, 2012). STEM instruction should include engagement in inquiry, logical reasoning, collaboration, and investigation (MSDE, 2012).

What is a STEM fair?

All students are required to complete a STEM fair project!

Projects are due December 14, 2018!

Students will present their STEM fair projects in their classroom on December 17-19, 2018. Teachers will judge classroom projects.

We have 7 categories for the STEM fair!

1. Behavioral Science

Ex. Do people have better visual memory or auditory memory?

2. Botany and Zoology- Ex. Will a plant grow quicker upside down or right side up?

3. Chemistry –Ex. Which liquid causes the most gas?

4. Earth and Environment Science-

Ex. Which material decomposes the quickest?

5. Engineering- Ex. Which materials make the sturdiest bridge?

6. Math and Computer Science-

Ex. Which search engine gives the best results?

7. Physics - Ex. Do different types of string or string lengths affect the efficiency of a paper cup or tin can telephone?

Other important requirements!

Upper elementary (3rd-5th grade) are required to complete a research paper which should be turned in on December 14, 2018.

January 5, 2019 our STEM fair will take place at the school. Only the top 40% of Upper Elementary will be invited to the STEM fair. These students will be those who have really put forth a lot of effort. We have lots of amazing prizes. Prizes include all sorts of cool STEM prizes. Please help your child with their STEM fair project. However, do not complete the project for them.
