SFX are usually used to hook the viewer in and make the film more exciting or realistic. In post apocalyptic films, SFX are usually used to either; portray aliens, zombies or other baddies, or to create the setting in which the film is set. These elements are to make the film realistic and believable.
Special effects (or SFX) are used in the film and entertainment industry to create effects that cannot be achieved by normal means, such as travel to other star systems. They are also used when creating the effect by normal means is prohibitively expensive, such as an enormous explosion. They are also used to enhance normal visual effects. Types of SFX include; traditional theater effects, classic film techniques, and modern computer graphics techniques (CGI). Often several different techniques are used together to achieve the desired effect.
