The combination of our main product and our ancillary texts makes up the promotional package for our film. We have created a film trailer for our main product and for our ancillary texts we have created a film poster and a film magazine cover. We wanted to create a promotional package that would be targeted at a mass audience. We wanted to do this because we felt that bullying is something that should be made aware about as it happens in everyday life. However becuase our storyline is based on bullying this usually attracts a niche audience.
I think this element of the film magazine has worked well. It is a famous magazine title which stands very large and bold at the top of the poster. As it is a famous magazine title there are other elements of the magazine that are covering parts of it.
The photograph we took for the magazine cover is showing just the main character with a dark background. However the image isnt filling the page as much as it could do. I think that this could have been a bit larger and the background could have been slightly darker as I feel this distracts you from the image.
I have included other information around the cover telling the viewer what else they can see included inside the magazine. I think I could have included more as I think it looks a bit empty.
I have included the films title and release date on the magazine cover also. This isnt usually include in a magazine cover. I dont think these are very noticable.
This is our film trailer we have created. I think that this is an important part of a promotional package. a few of the elements that i think were succesful in this was the music, the split screen and variety of camera angles.
In this area of the poster we decided to include words to the wall. The words we have used are things that would be seen in the film. We wanted this these words to almost look like engravings on the bricks so that they are almost hidden to give our poster a hidden meaning. I think that this has worked quite well but we couldnt get the words to blend in with the wall enough to look like engravings.
The image fills most of page on the poster as it is in a box to frame it. To edit this we cut the image out on photoshop and added a brickwall towards the back of the image so it looks like she is in the corner of a room and we have added a black floor. I think that we could have gone back to refine the edges of this cut out image as the edges look a bit rough. As we didnt create any a ancillary texts in our AS coursework Photoshop was a new software for us to use in media.
I think the music was succesful because it set the right mood in the trailer. Our audience noticed how the music was used to set these moods. However I think to make it more successful I could have made it more dramatic at the end.
Another element i mentioned i thought was successful was the split screen. I think this was successful because it made the clips look more interesting and it allowed me to show two point of views at once.
I think having a variety of camera angles shows the film in many different points of views and helps show that elements are from different parts of the film.
We initally had problems with finding male actors for our original storyline. To overcome this we resulted in changing the storyline so that we were able to use female actors only. After changing our storyline we struggled to film in different weather contitions as most of the time we had planned to film it was raining. However we managed to ajust some of our planned clips so that they would work in the rain as well. We also refilmed parts when the weather had brightened up.
The film title on the poster has been written in the same font as the titles in our trailer. This is so that the audience will recognise the title and the font together when they see it. We have placed the title toward the bottom middle of the poster in the largest font to make sure the audience know that this is the films title and to make sure it is clear and bold.
Our tag line 'a secret that should have never been told' was placed underneath the films title in the same font but a smaller size. I think that this could have looked more successful if it was smaller slightly and positioned differently so that it isnt just on one line.
For our billing box we have stated the actors, directors, producers and music producers. This is in a different font that is thiner and smaller. I dont think that this is as successful as real billing boxes. I think this because it isnt as small or tight together.
