In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Pug
Puff
The use of a pug on a magazine is extremely conventional. I have used this convention on my product to conform with the comvention however i have opposed and developed the convention of using a pug to advertise price, i have used the technique to let the audience know the product is a special issue.
Puffs are a succesful magazine
must have. They "big up" the
magazine and offer the audience
an incentive to buy the magazine.
for example the reader will think
the magazine is worth buying if it
is the best selling one in the UK.
Masthead
My masthead is large
and spreads across
the top of the cover.
This is conventional
of nearly every single
type of magazine.
Main Cover Line
Main Image
The main cover line is on the
left third of the magazine which
is conventional of magazines.
The main image links with the
main cover line as they are the
main feature of the magazine
issue. The main cover line has
a quote that draws readers in as
it is a bold statement that people
will feel inclined to purcase the
magazine and read on.
The main image is very
large and is towards the
right of the page, to allow
room on the left for stories.
The image overlaps the
mastheadlike many other
magazines as the masthead
is easily recognisable and
the image is more important
as it is the main feature.
The model is looking at the
reader to give a direct address.
Gutter
There is a gutter line running at the bottom of the cover. Gutter lines are not that conventional in music magazines however they offer a great way to convince the audience that the magazine has more content.
Barcode
Cover Lines
The barcode is in the bottom of the
left third. It is here so the buyer can
find it easily. I did not tuck the barcode
away as just below it there is a web
address to my magazines website. This
is conventional as it gives readers a
new way to explore the magazine.
The cover lines are in a smaller
font to the main cover line and
they surround the main image.
This is conventional of music
magazines as it shows they are
important and worth being on
the cover but aren't as important
as the main features. Without
these the audience will feel that
the magazine is not worth buying
as it doesn't have much in it.
