-Grand-Nephew and adopted son of Claudius
-focused much of his attention on diplomacy, trade, and enhancing the cultural life of the Empire

- Many people believe that he was a paranoid schitzophrenic
- Nero's rule is often associated with tyranny and extravagance
- Is known for many executions, including those of his mother and the probable murder of his stepbrother

The Eigth Emperor

-claim to the throne was soon challenged by the eastern provinces
-War ensued -> leading to a crushing defeat for Vitellius
-Was excecuted in Rome by Vespasian's soldiers on 22 December 69

The Ninth Emperor
- Founder of the Flavian dynasty, which ruled the empire for 25 years
-Held the consulship in 51 AD
Armies in Egypt and Judaea declared Vespasian emperor on July 1
-> Vespasian joined forces with others
-> Primus and Mucianus (appointed generals) led the Flavian forces against Vitellius, while Vespasian gained control of Egypt
-> On 20 December, Vitellius was defeated
-> the following day Vespasian was declared emperor by the Roman Senate.
June 24, 79 AD – September 13, 81 AD
The Tenth Emperor
-Was Vespasians' son
-Titus was left in charge of ending the Jewish rebellion.
- In 70-successfully laid siege to and destroyed the city and Temple of Jerusalem.
-Titus was awarded a triumph; the Arch of Titus commemorates his victory
-Completed the Colosseum
-Known by the people for helping heal what was caused by two disasters
-Eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 and the Fire of Rome in 80.
