MEDIA TECHNOLOGY

Media technologies were extremely significant in completing all tasks set. These were essential in the construction of trailer and the ancillary texts since, these technologies allowed me to highlight key elements in my tasks. Also media technologies helped me to apply detail and maintain a high level of accuracy throughout the design and style of the trailer, poster and magazine, which also included my viral campaign video.

In more detail, the trailer and the viral campaign video required similar media technologies. Technologies such as, using the program Final Cut Pro on an Apple Mac laptop to edit together the footage shot. This was the key concept of producing the trailer and viral campaign video that allowed me to apply different effects and manipulate shots, in order to create specific tones. For example, Final Cut Pro allowed me inter-twine the sound with the shot to a high degree in certain scenes where intensity was meant to be portrayed. In further detail, media technologies allowed me to follow the forms and conventions of the sustaining the element of mystery and suspense in the viral video and trailer. The main technology to film the primary footage was a video recorder, tripod and a tape. These were also used for the viral video and the trailer which was withdrawn through a cable onto the computer to edit.

A digital camera was also needed for other purposes, strictly for the construction of the poster and magazine front cover. This further entail, the central image was highly important and was one of the main conventions that stood out on both media texts. The camera was used to take a photograph and needed to consist of depth, which was carried out through a basic aspect of making sure the photograph is in focus and sharp. This is clearly evident through the central image on the magazine, whereby the three individuals are standing together with different clothing. The middle character is wearing a lighter colored jacket, making him stand out, which was taken first with a 6 mega pixel camera and then with a 10 mega pixel camera. The improvement showed a huge difference, as the image became clearer to the audience, thus making it more attractive and appealingly.

Photoshop was another program used to alternate an image which was uploaded from the camera. This computer program was the main source of my creativity, as it allowed me to add effects and filters which helped me to explore the software and construct Photoshop experiments. I personally think that Photoshop is an underrated piece of technology which has helped me to connote a variety of tones within my poster and magazine cover. For example, using the brush effect on the eyes in the poster and magazine created a high level of mystery and a series of questions towards the audience, which above all enhances the elements of suspense and reflects the horror genre. Yet again this allowed me to explore and keep the form and conventions to be challenged to a greater level, as the facial expressions which involved the eyes, were experimented with and enhanced in depth to be a central factor on the poster and magazine.
