They are in meat, fish, eggs, milk products, nuts and pulses.

Our body needs vitamins to work properly.

• There are many different vitamins.

• They are in foods of plant origin, like fruit and vegetables, and in foods of animal origin, like milk, fish, meat and eggs.

Our body uses fats to build a store of extra energy.

• Animal fats is in butter and red meat.

• Vegetable fats is in nuts and oils.

Minerals

Food contains the nutrients we need to live.

The main nutrients are: carbohydrates, fats and oils, proteins, minerals and vitamins.

Our body needs minerals to work properly.

• There are many different minerals.

• Calcium is one of the most important. It is in dairy products, pulses and some vegetables.

Carbohydrates

Our boy uses carbohydrates to get energy.

• Most carbohydrates come from plants.

• They are in cereals, like wheat, rice and corn, pulses, potatoes and fruit.
