How did the use of media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Music Video

There were several

different forms of media

technology and products

we used in order to conduct

research for our music video.

  • YouTube was one of the key tools that allowed us to conduct research for our music video.
  • We were able to view professional videos created for other artists of a similar genre to our chosen artist as well as viewing videos created my other amatuer film makers.
  • Having access to such material has completely influenced the way we went about creating our video, without such technologies planning, creating and sharing our product would have been a completely different, and most probably more difficult process.

Since the emergence of the

website 'Youtube' amatuer film

makers and professionals have been

able to market and share their

products free of charge to anyone

with internet access.

This in turn has benefited us as media students, allowing us to share our products

as well as viewing the products of others.

  • Part of the planning procedure was to find ourselves an unsigned artist from the United Kingdom that was willing to allow us to use their music in order to create a music video for it.
  • There were several different websites listing unsigned artists available for download. However, there was nothing satisfactory on any of these websites so i instead used 'Myspace'.
  • Myspace is a social networking site, not dissimilar from 'Facebook'. Myspace also allowes unsigned bands and artists to create a free page where they are able to share their music.
  • Through myspace we found a local artist called 'Cat Frequency' whos song we decided to use to create our video.
  • Blogger, or Blogspot has been one of the key features throughout the entirety of our media course.
  • It has been crucial for elements of our research and planning as everything we have researched and looked into we are able to post onto our blogs which is highly beneficial when later creating our music video, as well as being easily presentable to those examining our course.
  • The website 'Survey Monkey' made it simple for me to create questionnaires and then collect the data through posting the questionnaires onto 'Facebook'.
  • By doing all of my research via the internet i was able to do it on a larger scale a lot faster than handing them out to individual people.

Research

Print Productions

  • Google images allowed us to search for album artwork for various artists.
  • This was a crucial part of our research because it enabled us to see how an album cover is constructed professionally.
  • The website 'Dafont' is an archive of hundreds of different fonts that are free to download and install onto your computer.
  • This allowed us to use a professional, unique and interesting font(s) for our products free of charge.
  • Once again we used our online blog to post all our research and planning for the print production fase of the coursework.
  • This means that ourselves, and others, are able to look back to see how we ammended our products, how we changed our ideas and what gave us our ideas in the first place.

Construction

  • The construction of our products included both the production and post production stages.
  • We had to first design and then alter, edit and create our final product.

Music video

  • Adobe Premier Elements was almost deffinately one of the main programs used for the post production stages of our music video.
  • Without this program it would not have been possible to edit our footage, put it to a soundtrack and add post production effects.
  • We used a small Sony DV Camera to film all our footage for our video.
  • This was the only technology used for the production stages of the music video.
  • It was a good product to use as it is small and easily useable, even by those without experience with a film camera.

Print Productions

  • The cannon digital camera is what i used to capture the images i intended to use for both my CD design and my Magazine advertisement.
  • It is a good quality camera that is easy to use, allowing me to get images with a good picture quality and then transfer them to photoshop straight away.
  • After capturing my images i then used Adobe Photoshop to edit them.
  • Photoshop allowed me to add effects and use the layers to design something to a near professional standard.

Evaluation

  • Like all the other aspects of my coursework, Blogger played an important role in the evaluative stage of my work.
  • I was able to post all my evaluations and analysis onto the blog with ease, knowing that anyone that wishes to view it can do so.
