Money was really the cause of most of the troubles encountered throughout the novel.
This is because the reason Daisy did not wait longer for Gatsby was because he was poor while she was rich.
While Gatsby was away, Tom came into Daisy's life. Daisy decided to marry him and it worked because he too was also rich.
If Daisy had waited she would not have married Tom and Gatsby would not try to get her back and Gatsby would not have been murdered.
Polo
One way Tom Buchanan showed his wealth was through his polo team.
Throughout this novel, each character
was attempting to reach their
American Dream.
Most of their American Dreams,
were to have money and a family.
However, most did not attain
their American Dream.
For example, Gatsby soiled the American Dream by gaining his money through illegal dealings which in turn, did not allow him to get Daisy.
Throughout the novel,
colors played an important
role.
As an example, Myrtle
allowed several taxi cabs
to pass them just so she
could select a lavender
colored one with grey upholstery.
The lavender represented royalty,
while the grey represented
emptiness. The taxi represented Myrtle,
as she was more concerned about outside
appearences.
Another example of color,
is green.
The color green represents envy.
Envy was represented through
the light at the end of the
Buchanan's dock. The envy was
shown, because Gatsby was
envious of Tom being with Daisy.
The Eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg
were present throughout the book
when something bad was happening.
The eyes were located
in the Valley of Ashes,
near George's Garage.
Such events seen by the eyes, were Tom cheating on Daisy, Myrtle cheating on George, Myrtle being murdered and Nick seeing all of this unfold while doing nothing to stop it.
