Today’s first reading, We Know Less About Thinking Than We Think, by Steve Quartz, stated that we really do not know as much about the process our brains go through to really think, therefore it can not be determined that our thinking process has changed because of the Internet.

Summary

Today’s second reading, Everyone is an Expert, by Roger Schank, stated that the thinking process has not changed in 50,000 years. “What has changed is how we find evidence, how we interpret the evidence we have found, and how we find available explanations from which to choose.” Finding evidence and interpreting evidence has not changed as well. However the internet allows us to find evidence more quickly and in the comfort of our own home. In addition, we are able to find MORE information due to the internet, but that does not mean that all of that information is reliable, thus not everyone is an expert just because they have access to more information.

Therefore, the type of information that we are seeking is is not as important as being able evaluate, analyze and create new information.

We need to learn how to problem solve, and teach our students as well, how to think independently, and adapt to new tools rather than just memorize information.
