Costumes
Throughout the music video, the female character will be wearing mainly white. This is because white connotes as purity and innocence which is the type of character we want to portray on the female even though the song lyrics suggests that she has done wrong in the past. We want her to wear casual clothing to portray as her everyday life. These are the costumes that the female character will be wearing.
Her first outfit shows that she is wearing a white crop top with red lettering on it. White connotes as innocence and purity whereas the red connotes love which the narrative theme of our music video. This is also the same style as the original music video of Yasmin - On My Own. We use this because mostly teenagers are more into latest fashion trends.
The blue jeans connote as neutral and add something different to the look. Blue also connotes as calmness, piety and tranquility which is the kind of character we want to portray even though she has been through a lot of problems, she can still keep herself calm.
We chose white shoes as this implies innocence and purity and the female is pure. We used "Converse" shoe brand because we want the character to keep in the latest trends so the audience can relate to her.
Her second outfit which is a white flowy/ silky dress because we want to portray all her innocence throughout her whole body. The female character will be wearing this when she gets up on her bed.
Lighting:
We have decided as a group to use natural key lighting in most parts of our music video because we want it look more realistic. However, we have decided to do low key lighting as well on the party scene.
We are going to use daylight because it is kind of high key lighting which reflects on the female's bright mood even though she has been through a lot of problems, she can still be happy. It also helps the audience to understand the mood of the song.
During the party scene the lighting is going to be low key but with some artificial colour lights which will help set the mood of the scene. When the female is sat in the corner on her own, we will be using one light which will help emphasise the female as she will be shown isolated away from everyone else in the party.
Actors:
In our music video we are going to have different characters but only one main actor, which is a female. We have chosen the female we have to act because she goes to college to do performing course and likes to sing both in and outside of college. She would be the best person to act in our video because she would act to the best of her ability and would give a good performance. We also chose her because we can get in contact with her easily and she only lives in the same town as our group. Alice is 17 yrs. old which would appeal more to our target audience.
In our music video, we decided to have a mixture of facial expression based on the lyrics of the song. However, the main facial expression that we want to portray is sadness because the meaning of the lyrics is about someone that used to have everything and now it's all gone and she has to make it on her own. There will be some positive facial expressions throughout the music video such as the party scene of with her ex-boyfriend and past memories with him.
The poses that she would be doing are a mix between closed and open, as when the lyrics say she is scared she will have closed body language, and when the lyrics say that she is happy her body language will be open.
Make-Up:
The female character will be wearing make-up because we wanted her to look like other teenagers in society and show that she isn’t different to any of them. It could also imply that she is trying to cover her problems with her make-up that she is becoming a whole new different person, and this is showing that she is trying to move on from the past and make it as someone different in the future.
The red lipstick connotes love which also relates back to the theme of our music video, as she is trying to forget all the past heartbreak she has had from family and ex-boyfriend. We want her to look the same as the teenagers nowadays so we thought of using the latest trend lipstick that the teenage girls in the society is now wearing.
Props:
There are different props that we have chosen to use for music video as it depends on what scene it is. However, most of the objects that we decided to use is what a modern teenage girl would use daily. This is because we want to portray to the audience that she isn't different to any other teenagers.
Our first idea was to have the clock but we decided as a group to use egg timer instead because clock is what we normally see every day and we want it to look different. The egg timer will be placed on a windowsill in the living room and we are going to show the female stood next to it. We chose to use this item as a prop as it portrays the passing of time, and the audience can see the sand falling down to the bottom which connotes as you won't be able to turn back the time.
We chose to have make-up as a prop as well because for some girls it is an essential everyday item that they can’t go out the house without wearing. For some girls it makes them feel more confident when they are wearing it, and for modern girls a big part of who they are is from the way the look. It also implies that the female character wants to cover her problems by putting make-up on.
We decided to use a mobile phone because it is a modern everyday object that every one is using all the time. This also shows that teenagers like to keep in contact with other people they might not see all the time. We chose our female to have a phone, because she can look through old pictures and videos on her phone of old memories and it connotes that she wants to get in contact with old friends and that she is a modern girl.
We are going to use a photo album even though it is not an everyday object. However, we have chosen to have it in our music video because the the lyrics signifies about something that you used to have but you don’t have it anymore and now the actor has to make it on her own, so we thought a good way to show things that she used to have would be through pictures in a photo album.
Within the photo album we were show pictures of her with her friends and ex. However, when she is flicking through the album and sees a photo of her and ex, she pulls it out and rips it in half then throws it on the floor. This implies that she is putting the past behind her, and showing that she doesn’t want anything to remember all her bad memories so she can move on.
Settings:
We have used different locations on our music video so it is not plain and the audience won’t find it boring to watch. We also used the generic conventions of love/relationship theme such as the park where the couples would normally go for romantic date. Overall I think that all the locations that we have chosen to film at all links back to the females’ isolation and the state she is at in the song. The way that she used to have so much but now she has nothing you can’t hold onto the past, you have to let go and move on.
We also chose a park as one of our locations as it showed memories of where the female used to hang around when everything was perfect. We also took it on the bridge because even though she has problems in her life, she can still overpass it.
Another place we chose to shoot was down a small path as is we wanted to portray the females’ isolation and it implies that she is on her own now and she hasn't got anyone else to turn to. This also makes an enigma to the audience on where she is going. The path is surrounded with trees as well because the female would stand out like in a place where she feels like she doesn’t belong, which would fit with the lyrics of the song.
We are going to film this in Osgodby during daytime for the first scene and night time for the the last scene of our music video. This is because we wanted to show her everyday life.
We also chose to shoot the female on the swing because it can show her thinking, and when she is swinging it’s like she is stuck between two places just hanging in the middle and can’t decide what she wants to do.
We chose to film at a beach as well because it is a place that a lot of couples go to, and we wanted to show the female feeling insecure by visiting places she used to go to with her ex, but now she’s alone it’s like she’s clinging onto the past and doesn’t know how to let go. We have decided to do Cleethorpes beach because it is the nearest place we could film at.
A party scene would be a good time to shoot because it could again show the female at a place that used to be familiar to her, but yet now she feels like she doesn’t belong there.
We are going to take our party scene in drama studio because we can’t find a club that is close to our place and would let us use it.
