Actors

  • Thom Yorke is the lead vocalist and songwriter in the band Radiohead, featured in this music video. Thom's background makes him out to be a shy, depressing person; this is reflected by the slow rhythm to the song.Lajos Kovács is a Hungarian actor; he has worked with Jonathon glazer on Radioheads karma police and Guinness commercial.

Meaning of the Video

Thom Yorke said the song was about stress and having people looking at you in that certain malicious way, I can't handle it anymore".In popular culture there has been a debate to whether that is the karma police, Thom Yorke singing in the car chasing after Lajos Kovács or Lajos Kovács when he burns the car?

Type of Video

This style of music video is called illustration, which means that the video has a story line to it relating it with the lyrics of the son. As in this music video we see Thom Yorke acting almost like a heart-less thug singing "this is what you get" repeatedly, while chasing down a man on the road.

Thought Beats

The video starts off with the slow and steady piano melody and a rhythmic acoustic guitar in the background, the camera is facing the back seat of a car. At the end of the video there is the same shot, but the car is on fire. This would give a sense of ironey and fitting in with the message of the song, these two shots give the auidence that karma will always catch up with you.

Another thought beat is created when the drums and Thom Yorkes vocals come into the song and the engine of the car starting up, as well as the front headlights come on, this effect creates a nervous atmosphere giving the audience a feeling of loss of control. In the video, the slow movement of the car and the slow rhythm to the song fits together perfectly, giving the audience the effect of everyday life car journeys.
