Why Ning?
Facebook and Myspace popularity.
It was free!
The idea of “social networking” in education intrigued me.
Allows me to communicate with students much easier.
Allows students to help and communicate with each other much easier-students helping students.
Allows for student collaboration and creativity, not just a place to get information.
Allows me to provide powerpoints, podcasts and other information much more efficiently.
Allows learning to take place anytime, anyplace.
Provides an individual website to each student which serves as their e-portfolio.
Students are more engaged and have less discipline issues.
Allows for a much more student-focused class.
Could easily transform into an online only class.
My System-The Paperless Classroom
-Students lead the class.
-Students research and then present to the class.
-Tests are made up from what students present.
-Most everything is done on the computer or orally.
-All writing is done via blogs and forum posts.
-Students have three test options-oral, written, and video documentary.
Students are put into teams.
I will go over my Powerpoint on a given topic if I feel students need more clarification.
My role is to help students understand what they are presenting and to be sure that all important info is covered.
My lectures(podcasts) are available online for students if they want a traditional teacher lecture.
Individual oral testing takes time but is well worth it.
While waiting to test, students can study or start working on the next assigned project.
Make that change!!
