Jorge has challenges in speaking, listening, and pronunciation. He could work more on the simple present. One mistake I noticed was his use of BE with other verbs in the simple present. His strengths are his strong sense of community, both inside and outside the classroom, and the fact that he's an independent learner.
Jorge sometimes falls behind in class because he learns and works at a different pace than his peers. He needs to make sure that everything is clear for him. He participates actively with his classmates and contributes to a cooperative atmosphere in class. And he works well in pairs but he needs his time to work alone, too. He sometimes will double-check what he needs to do before he engages in the activities.
Jorge tends to be a visual / auditory learner. He really needs to jot down and write new words and expressions, and he likes to read the sentences as well. When he’s in class, he will always ask his instructors to repeat the words. He will ask you to clarify pronunciation and meaning. One little habit of his that I really like and admire is that he carries his mini dictionary to class EVERY DAY. Give him time in class before you go on to the next activity because he needs his notes neatly organized and complete.
Jorge has deep, intrinsic motivation. So, make no mistake! He really knows what he wants and why. He wants to become bilingual because he’s the best guide you can get when it comes to going on hiking trips or visiting the area’s many natural wonders. Not many people are fit enough to show you the great places around the area. So he needs to learn English to serve the visitors that come here.
Jorge aka “George” did not have formal training in English in the different schools he went to. He first encountered English at the Centro Espiral Maná. He didn’t even have the chance to continue studying here continuously. He has had to stop his learning because of many problems, like money.
