Beth Marwolaeth

Outline

The film will start off with the dead victim Beth Marwolaeth laying on the floor of the woods. She is 17 year old student from St Mary's school for girls. Throughout the film it will focus around her murder and discovering who killed her.

Throughout the film there will be hints/clues towards the other characters Alice, Dave and Jack.

The opening sequence will show the following characters doing a set of very different things that will appear suspecting. Dave will be shown to be burning pictures of Beth. Jack will be vigorously scrubbing his skirt in the bathroom. Alice will be shot ripping a picture(s) of her and Beth and writing things in her diary. Throughout the film suspicion arises on Dave because of his weird obsession with Beth. Later on we find out that that jack suspected that Beth was going to kill her self so tries to stop her, and that’s why he had blood on his shirt. Towards the end of the film it is revealed that Alice and Beth had a heated argument about Beth's mother having an affair with Alice's father. At this point the audience will believe that Alice has murdered or is involved with Beth's murder. However the twist to the story will be that Beth Committed Suicide due to severe depression.

Development

During lesson our group got together decided and finalise the characters and cast the roles:

Beth Marwolaeth: Myself

Alice: Becky

Dave: Dan

Jack : Tolga

When thinking about naming our film. We had a few ideas but none of them were really that powerful.

Our first name idea that really stood out was to call the film "Beth" we thought that this was suitable because the film is about the story of Beth. The title is short and to the point. The name Beth also rhythms

with "Death" this is really effective as the story is about Beth and her Death.

After some more discussion about the name of the film we thought that it would be effective to have Beth's last name as a hidden clue. We wanted her last name meaning "Death". This would be to obvious just to have this in English so we decided that it would be effective to have the name in different language.

We tried a few languages but the most effective and unusual was to

have her last name in Welsh : Marwolaeth.

So the title of the film will appear :

Beth Marwolaeth.

Target Audience

After discussing we have decided that our Target Audience will best suit teenagers and Young Adults aged 15-25. We feel that this target audience will be suitable for our film because the main characters are around this age group. We believe that the Thriller/Drama genre will capture the attention of teenagers and young adults due to the film having a dark, gloomy atmosphere and the sense of mystery. The film will not be suitable for audiences under 15, due to the disturbing death scene, swearing content and nudity. The film will not attract adults over 25 because of the actors/ characters starring in a "teenage film"

The film will mostly attract middle classed people as its a relaxed informal film.

EXT.WOODS.EVENING

BETH is laying dead on the floor of the woods with parts of her body submerged in water. She is wet and dirty.

INT.DAVE'S ROOM.EVENING

DAVE is burning pictures of Beth in his room.

He looks suspicious.

INT.JACK.EVENING

JACK is scrubbing his shirt in the bathroom sink.

He looks scared and desperate.

INT.ALICE.EVENING

ALICE is ripping up pictures of BETH and writing in her diary. She looks upset and extremely angry.

EXT.WOODS.EVENING

Repeated shot of BETH laying dead on the floor of the woods with parts of her body submerged in water.

She is wet and dirty.

Developing Ideas

I thought that I would take the chance to try out some rough initial idea for the font used for our film. Although it may not seem an important detail the text can be a vital part of our opening sequence

As you can see from the opening sequence from Superbad the film is a comedy, the music is funky and upbeat alongside the bright abstract credits.

Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith Opening Title shows us that the film takes place in space in a far away galaxy. This is very different to the Superbad opening. The text has a great influence into a opening sequence of a film.
