Theodore Roosevelt passed the Pure food and Drug act in 1906.

Roosevelt also passed the Meat inspection act in 1906 in direct response to Sinclairs "Jungle"

Success?

The Progressives did in fact succeed once the acts had passed. As a result of the Progressives the food we consume everyday is not only better for but it cant transmit any diseases.

Upton Sinclair wrote the Jungle.

Food safety of Today

Food safety of today has improved since 1906 but is not at the standard that Americans want, horse meat and what is known as Pink slime still causes many people to get sick.

In conclusion the food safety today's economy is not as an issues as it was during the progressive era. Many organizations are in operation to protect people from food borne diseases.

The meat packing industry was not being clean properly. There were never any regulations to how the food should be processed. people becoming sick from the conditions in the diseases that would infect the meat.

Upton Sinclair was the muckraker that reveled to the people what was really happening where their meat was coming from.
