Broken down into two processes...

Endocytosis - The process in which the cell ingests external substances.

Exocytosis - The process in which the cell releases the substance that was ingested.

Cytosis

Endocytosis - Two Types!

Endocytosis

Cytosis is a transport mechanism in which substances move in and out of the cell by using vesicles

Phagocytosis - The cells ingests large solid particles.

Exocytosis

- It is a type of active transport -

Pinocytosis - The cells ingests solutes or fluids.

All types of macromolecules are transported, along with wastes and water.

Phagocytes

  • Are a specialized type of cell (White blood cell)
  • Ingest bacteria through phagocytosis
  • Fuse with lysosomes after ingesting the bacteria to be broken down before any damage (Infection) can be done

Exocytosis

The reverse of Endocytosis - the substances are just exiting the cell
