Integrating Software

And that's how we made "Into the Woods".....

We used iMovie for this project. All of the members in our group felt comfortable using it and we felt it would be the easiest and most efficient way to do it.

Lighting: We were able to use lighting on our phones to show specific area of what we wanted to show. Since it was in the pitch black we needed a way to keep it well lit in the areas we needed to. So, when we needed more than our phones we pulled up our cars near the set and used the headlights to keep it more lit. The lack of light helped create some senses of suspense and helped us portray a lot of different aspects of our film.

Sound: We searched for music that would help embellish the creepiness of the background noise of the film and that would also go well with the white noise from the background of the original shots that we took. We got super lucky with the time of the of the sound track that we used because the climax of the song and the climax of our opening went very well together and we were able to fiddle around with it and make it seem a lot more fluid as a whole.

Production

Although my teacher has made us very well prepared to do a great job on this project with many other small projects, at the beginning of the production process I was still a little overwhelmed. We had to make young people look older, incorporate music and wardrobe as well as we could, make some run down house in the forest look even more creepy and do so many other things. However, with the help of my group members we were all able to combine our talents and make the whole process so much easier. It was amazing how we were able to be so innovative and make not a lot of stuff seem like everything. This whole process will make me feel a lot more confident going into my next big project.

Distribution

It will be distributed in a very modern way such as having it available for downloadable content and on a software so that it can be easily accessed. Also, we want our film to be in theaters for as long as possible in order to get our ratings up as well as trying to generate the most money. After it runs through its course in theaters, we would like our film to be streamed through websites and apps such as Netflix, Hulu, etc., because in the past few years this new type of streaming has revolutionized the film industry and it will continue to help our film be seen.

Engaging the Audience

Our product engages with the audiences because it keeps them on the edge of their seats. Right from the beginning of the film it interacts with them and has them wondering what this lady is all about and why the heck she looks so creepy. Also, the specific camera angles we used helped illustrate the creepiness of the situation. The close-ups of the face and feet of her while walking and of the area around her helped portray the eerie sense we were going for. The music that we used as well with the background shots even further helps engage the audience.

Using Conventions

It uses conventions of a normal or typical suspense/thriller film. The movie opens up with a big question mark and with a huge hole in the plot and leaves the audience searching for answers. Right of the bat it had the audience on the edge of their seats and excited for the rest of the film. Our character’s story upholds this convention because she is a creepy old lady wandering around in this unknown forest and in the last few seconds of the opening, the plot twist happens and leaves the audience scrambling for an answer. This reflects extremely popular suspense/thriller films such as “Silence of the Lambs” and “Scream” because it has the audience questioning the film throughout the entire length of it and leaves plot holes that are filled throughout the film.
