Evaluation

Our target audience for our task was older teenagers and young adults. I think we attracted our audience by creating a realistic and scary opening for a film. The realism came from the short clips of interviews, and mixed with the music and images of dark places it also created the thriller theme.

how did we attract/address our audience?

In our film we used music from Sweeney Tood. This was because the film and our idea was simial and it created atmosphere. When filming the interviews we had to use the main lights and a lmap because it was inside and dark. All other filming the lighting was natural.

To start with we found it difficult to come up with a suitable idea that we all liked, wanted to do, and that we all thought was achievable. Because one of the group members had no phone or email address it was always hard to contact her, resulting in it being hard to all get together and film. Another member also worked quite a bit so we had to find a time when we could all meet. When editing we also realised that we has not filmed enough, but because we were behind we had no time to do more. I think time was our main problem and we should have kept up with the work and looked through it all so we had time to film more when we realised we needed to. When editing as well there were only 2 of us that knew how to actually use the software, as we were used to using a different one, and even then we still found it difficult and could only do the basics.

Problems

I think our preliminary task was better than our main task. This was probably because the preliminary task was filmed in school, in school hours so we didn't have to meet up outside school. Due to our lack of organisation this was easier for us to complete this task within time limits. However i do feel that i learnt more about editing because our prelimianry task didn't have a lot of editing in.

Conclusion

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progressions from it to the full product.

Overall i am not entirely pleased with the finished product. I think our initial idea was good, but i didn't really like how it all turned out. There are a lot of things we could have done much better if we worked better as a team and put more effort in.

Location

Improvements

For our interviews we decided to film them in one of our houses, this was because we wanted to show that the people were scared of what was happening and also grieving for their loss. Our short scene of a person running took place outside on the grass.

In what way does my media product use, develop or challenge forms & conventions of real media products?

Our media product uses typical conventions of a thriller movie, for example the music in our opening scenes create suspense and sets the atmosphere. In our phtots of places, the lighting is very dark and you can see shawdows in the images. The setting in the images also adds to the convention. Our product challenges forms and conventions because we have the interviews included. these were shot in a living room in one of our houses, which we thought created a setting of comfort. We did this because we wanted to portray that the victims were too scared to leave the house and were still grieving from there loss.

In our task I think there are a lot of thing we could have done better. We could have planned it more thoroughly and sorted out what we were going to do for the enitre filming, not just one bit at a time. We should have organised a filming day and stuck to it early on. I also think we could have worked a lot better as a team.

Distribution

If i had to chose a company to distribute our task, i think i would chose twisted pictures. this company is most known for producing the "saw" films. This could work because they are quite well known and have distributed movies of the same genre before. It is good to chose a well known company to distribute your movie as people are more likely to watch it.
