Wikiguide: Photography and Commons

A simple guide to uploading pictures on Commons

Wikimedia is a foundation and has many projects including Wikipedia, Commons, Wikiversity, Wiktionary etc

What is Commons?

Media files repository. You can put audio, video, image files in it and make them available in public domain as freely-licensed educational media content.

How-to: License

Nudity, censorship, NPOV

  • Only submit files that have a realistic educational value, not for shock, tittilation.
  • Please avoid images that explicitly favor a point of view in a situation.
  • NPOV rules!

Things you CAN do :)

  • Wikipedia takes <your city>
  • Wiki loves monuments!
  • Dig up antique prints, photos, archival material that YOU possess.
