The lifestyles of Natives changed as a result of contact with the Europeans. Natives lost the skills they needed to make their utensils and weapons. Tanned animal skins, or pelts, were traded to other Natives or Europeans for things like guns, ammunition, food, clothing, and metal pots and pans. Many hunting bands stopped moving from place to place, hunting game, and formed new, smaller, family groups, hunted in a smaller region, and tanned animal skins for pelts.
