I had no prior knowledge of what I would do in terms of colour scheme, images, themes or who my target audience would be.
Therefore the two pages looked amateurish and did not look like they were part of the same magazine.
This is partly due to my lack of preparation and also since I had never used the technology before.
However this task was the first step in improving my skills.
-Improved skills with technology
-Knowing the conventions of a music magazine
-Better understanding of how to appeal to an audience
-Knowing the importance of
planning ahead
My first task was to expand on my Photoshop skills as these would be essential when creating my magazine.
To produce the best magazine to my ability, I deconstructed three covers, contents pages and double page spreads from real magazines. This enabled me to know the conventions of the type of magazine I was making which meant I could use them in my own.
I thought about the type of magazine I wanted to make and who would be the best target audience to aim it at. This meant that during my audience research, I could see what elements were important to different people and incorporate the ones that were relevant to my target audience.
What do you feel you have learned in the progression from creating the school magazine (preliminary task), to creating your music magazine?
By this point I was rather capable using the necessary technology but as the task progressed, my skills and knowledge continue to improve.
Contrary to the preliminary task, each decision was centered around how my magazine would fit into the conventions of a music magazine whilst challenging them enough to stand out from the rest as well as how I would be appealing to my target audience.
I was also more knowledgeable about the business side of making a magazine as I had to compare distribution companies and consider an appropriate price for my magazine.
