well-organized formal

presentations.Most of

these presentations

will align with our Social

Studies standards

  • Schoolloop is for students to keep track of their grades and long-term projects.
  • I would like the student e-mail me before I get an e-mail from parents. Let's build student independence.
  • Students are required to copy their homework off the overhead into their organizer daily.
  • I will post long-term projects and the instructions on schoolloop for students and parents to review.

Final Thought ...

It's okay to let them fall and learn from mistakes.

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas A. Edison

Important Classroom Procedures

No Name Papers/Absent or Late Work

MY ROLE IN YOUR CHILD'S TRANSITION TO MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • TEACHING HIM/HER Responsibility FOR SCHOOLWORK
  • ORGANIZATION FOR SUCCESS
  • 1) Students check NO Name Folder before/after class or during break (never during class)
  • 2) It is the student's responsibility to check the file before telling me that they turned in the assignment.
  • 3)To resubmit a No Name paper, put the correct heading on the paper and place it in the Resubmitted Work file. (NO NAME= NO CREDIT)
  • 4)If you are absent, and you have make-up work, write "Absent" on assignment and place it in the resubmitted work file.
  • 5) If you have late work, attach signed study hall pass to assignment and place it in the resubmitted work file.

Student Progress

  • Grades are earned, not given
  • Overall grades are based on the total number of points earned on class assignments, homework, projects, quizzes, tests, and class participation
  • Grades posted on schoolloop about every 3 weeks
  • Students will be checking their grades in my class. They will write up their own progress reports and be required to have a parent signature.

Outstanding Attendance & Citizenship

I Expect.....

  • Maintain outstanding attendance throughout the school year is the State and District mandate
  • Reinforce positive behavior at home and at school. Refer to school and classroom rules and guidelines
  • Child must be well-prepared with proper attire, materials for learning and come to school ready to learn
  • Teamwork between teacher-parent and student is the key to your child's success in Grade 6

What I Expect from your child

Effective Work Habits & Academics

  • Always be fully aware of what your child is learning in the classroom
  • Homework is to be completed neatly and turned in on time every day
  • Students receive an academic organizer to list all assignments

ASSIGNMENT AND HOMEWORK POLICY ARE INCLUDED IN THE LETTER SENT HOME

Time Management

  • Time management is a difficult process for most sixth graders
  • I will be showing the students how to block out some time each day leading up to an exam or the due date for a big project or research paper. Please help with this
  • Homework and long term assignments are due on the day designated. If there is no due date specified, the assignment is due the next day.
  • Absences- Students have the same number of days they were absent to complete the work assigned. It is THEIR responsibility to get assignments, make-up tests, and turn in work. Each students has 1-2 "Study Buddies" to contact when they are absent.
  • Long term reports and projects must be turned in on the due date to be considered for full credit.

The students will be keeping English handouts for reference throughout the year. This will be kept in their binders. They will take lecture notes and put them in the their binders.
