Field Determination Example

Player X registers for the Championship at Geneva National. With 50% of the Boys field already full, Player X is placed in the Player Pending Queue. One month out, the player is one of 23 players pending. 19 of the players have JGS Rankings. After these players have been entered Player X is second in line of 4 remaining players. Will he gain entry?

Field Determination Policy

In 2015, the MAJGT developed a new Field Determination Policy to provide players the opportunity to compete against a stronger regional field. The following are the steps MAJGT staff takes to fill an MAJGT field.

1. Half of each field will be placed in the active field on a first come, first served basis.

2. Once a respective field has reached 50% all remaining registrants will be placed in a Pending Eligibility Approval queue.

3. One month prior to the first round of the tournament, 25% of the respective field will be filled based on JGS Ranking. If a field does not fill completely based on JGS Ranked players, it will then be filled based on the application date of registration.

4. Two weeks from the first round of the tournament, the final 25% of the respective field will be filled based on JGS Ranking. If a field does not fill complete based on JGS Ranked players, it will then be filled based on the application date of registration.

What are AJGA Performance Based Entry Stars?

• Players with the highest number of Performance Stars will have priority over players with fewer Performance Stars.

Performance Based Entry was introduced in 2003 as the means to determine AJGA tournament fields.

Players can earn Performance Stars based on their finishes in state, regional and national level junior tournaments as well as AJGA qualifiers and tournaments. Earning Performance Stars will assist players to gain entry into AJGA Open and Junior All-Star Series tournaments.

A player’s status will be calculated on a two-season cycle. In 2015, a player’s status will be calculated starting January 1, 2014. At the beginning of the 2015 season, all 2013 Performance Stars will expire and be dropped.

The pre-determined amount of PBE Stars awarded at MAJGT events can be found on each event's Tournament Information Pages.

Please note: The AJGA website, ajga.org, is the official source for information regarding Performance Based Entry and is subject to change.

What is the Junior Golf Scoreboard?

JGS also provides rankings that are used in determining all MAJGT fields. In order to have a ranking within the JGS the following criteria is used:

What is the MAJGT?

The MAJGT is designed for players who have had success at single-day events and are looking to gain more experience at multi-day events.

It is also designed for players who are looking to gain national exposure and exposure to college coaches through the Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) and gain PBE Stars for entry into American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events.
