The Problem

  • The global gender gap in education is concentrated among the poor.
  • 757 million adults still lack basic reading and writing skills. Two-thirds (63 percent) are women
  • In sub-Saharan Africa, approximately 80 percent of young women have not completed their secondary education, and one in three young women cannot read.
  • Of the 59 million children of primary school age who were out of school in 2013, 30 million lived in sub-Saharan Africa and 10 million in South and West Asia.

Empower everyone in the world by making basic education possible for all.

Prep-Me would include down-loadable content so that it would not require internet at home

Prep-Me would incorporate the standard k-12 curriculum developed by the government.

  • Games and fun characters to add appeal
  • Teachers can monitor progress
  • connect through a course code
  • Free textbooks through app
  • Donated by businesses and foundations like Gates Foundation
  • Students behind on school could catch up on breaks including summer at no extra cost

Made to benefit low-income children and people living in poverty

  • Does not require purchasing supplies
  • Provides encouragement
  • Same quality education

Prep-Me would be designed for kids to be able to do without adult assistance.

  • Benefits kids from single parent families
  • Benefits kids from families with parents working multiple jobs

One aim of Prep-Me is to make the quality of education standardized regardless of race, gender, income, sexuality and religion. By providing equal access to resources and tools we hope to close these gaps

U.S. STATISTICS

  • 43 percent of adults with the lowest literacy rates in the United States live in poverty.
  • State of Michigan says that Detroit is not legally obligated to make sure students in their schools are literate
  • 97% of low-income students rely on school for internet access, but 40 million students do not have high-speed Internet in school.
  • By the end of the 4th grade, African-American, Hispanic and low-income students are already 2 years behind grade level. By the time they reach the 12th grade they are 4 years behind.
  • 1.3 million high school students don't graduate on time yearly. States with highest rates (80-89%) are Wisconsin, Iowa, Vermont, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. States with lowest (less than 60%) are Nevada, New Mexico, Louisiana, Georgia and S. Carolina.

The Partnerships

  • If the 1.3 million dropouts from the Class of 2010 had graduated, the nation would have seen $337 billion more in earnings over the course of the students’ lifetimes.

International Statistics

  • For the school year ending in 2013, 124 million children and young adolescents, roughly between the ages of 6 and 15 years, have either never started school or have dropped out.
  • One in six children in low and middle income countries will not complete primary school in 2015.
  • A sample of 31 low- and lower-middle-income African and South Asian countries, showed that, on average, an urban child is almost five times more likely to complete secondary education than a rural child. And a boy is 1.55 times more likely than a girl to complete secondary school.

Who are we?

Crossing Borders

Mission and Vision

Our mission statement at Crossing Borders Closing Gaps is to make the world a better place by educating every single person. We aim to close the education gaps in industrialized and industrializing countries as well as spreading basic education all over undeveloped countries. We believe education empowers people, and that every person is entitled to an education. We focus on gender equality across the world. Lack of education can lead to lower income, poverty, crime, drug use, and even human trafficking and slavery. Our vision is a world of equal education for everyone regardless of gender, race, religion and income.

A viral campaign across the world to raise awareness and money about Crossing Borders Closing Gaps.

A simply made tablet with education lessons installed on it to be used in underdeveloped areas that lack schools and wifi.

An app called Prep-Me will give students the independence and ability to take their education into their own hands

Partnering with organizations that already exist for the same goals. Partnering with the government public education department.
