Another ancillary task for my A2 media coursework was to create a poster advertising my film, 'Hear My Cry'. In this particular piece i related my poster to the horror genre by having the main character slightly faded relating to the plot of the story as she has been murdered and has died however she hasn't fully went to the afterlife and she seeks justice to be made therefore is still present to her only best. Using the main character from the medium i found very effective as it again indicates to the audience that she is present, referring to the supernatural element which again supports the horror genre. At first i did decide on using a a forest as it relates to a significant scene within the mediuym itself as she is murdered there, and is a typical convention of a horror film. However, i opted with just black and white lines that resemble a forest because firstly it keeps my film consistent on the colour scheme making it look professional, but also it shows that she could be present in a better place as she was bullied by her peers at school and also her abusive father, but that she may be in a bad place as she hasn't currently reached the afterlife as she seeks justice to be made. The slogan of "Isolated, Lost, Alone" empathizes her childhood and how she feels as she has no-one there for her apart from her best friend but when she dies at first she isn't even there for her, resulting in her having no-one, often in a horror film the main character who is faced with a negative situation is usually by themselves and feel isolated from society. The effect of this on the audience is to show that the film will contain unexpected thrilling situations. I decided to place the title more or less in the center of the page as she is in the middle of the forest shouting for help relating to the name as only her best friend hears her cry for help, ironically at the time of the accident no-one hears her cry resulting in her death. Although it could also relate to her crying for help when she was alive as she is constantly abused and wants someone to help her, it all depends upon the audience's interpretation of the film itself. I particularly thought the poster for 'Drag Me To Hell' was effective as the main character is facing away from the camera also the background represents a typical setting for a horror film as people are able to relate to familiar surroundings, i broke away from this stereotype in my movie poster slightly as the audience are unable to relate to my surroundings as it is just black and white lines, however i find this effective as it makes my poster distinctive and stand out from other typical horror posters that are also trying to promote a similar film.

The last task i had to complete for my A2 media coursework was a movie trailer. I created a horror trailer as i personally feel you can use short, quick, snappy clips to create tension, briefly explaining to the audience what occurs in my film, 'Hear My Cry'. A particular scene i find very effective in my trailer is when the main character runs into the forest itself, it represents something negative is about to occur and indicates that it is most likely death, this will make the audience wonder who kills her? why did they do it? does she survive? etc. Hopefully encouraging them to want to see the film at the cinemas. I personally feel it relates to the scene in 'Mama' when Jessica Chastain (Annabel) is on the bed and mama is present underneath, this creates thrills and as it is presented on the screen as a quick clip the audience are unaware to if she dies or not, this will make them want to watch the film itself to find out the curious questions. My trailer introduces all of the three main characters but not what coiuld be classed as the significant character, the killer. i done this so it creates mystery and curiosity within the audience, giving no indications as to who it may be, l;eaving them guessing. A typical horror trailer does the same so it creates tension, mystery and thrills. I broke away from the typical conventions of zombies, cities etc. However i did decided to keep the conventions of portraying isolation, houses, a stalker, but also using point of view shots so they feel like they're actually present within the film itself, to make it feel more realistic and give them a better experience. Below is the 'Mama' trailer and also my film trailer, 'Hear My Cry.

Here is my magazine front cover i created featuring my film, 'Hear My Cry' for the magazine Total Film. I applied my understanding of the genre to this particular ancillary task by focusing on the image itself as i do believe the film gives an indication of the basic overview of a films plot. Resulting in me using a close-up shot to show the expression which is shock and horror, but also contrasting with pride as# it shows she is scared however facing her fears, in this case is her murderer and trying to stand up for herself as she seeks justice to be made. The dark make-up empathizes and supports the tension created, in a typical horror they use dark make-up to represent a negative occurrence. I followed this aspect as i find it effective towards the target audience. The colour scheme of red, white and black all again supports the genre as the black and white contrast each other supporting something negative and unpleasent is likely to occur in the film, however the red relates to blood, as death is present in my film but also the blood on the models head, is a huge resemblence of a typical horror film as blood and gore feature in the film itself. In this specific piece of coursework i used the specific main character of the medium itself, to make the audience aware of who to engage with and realize that a negative circumstance occurs involving her. the effect of this on the audience hopefully helps them create a personal relationship with this particular character as they may already feel like they're familiar with her. I particular liked the shot of Chris Pine from this specific issue as it feels as though he is directly looking at the audience which i found very effective being the target audience, therefore i decided to use this strategy on my front cover hopefully making the audience feel threaten in a way but encouraging them to see the film at the cinemas.

I decided to choose the task of creating a trailer, along with a poster and magazine front cover for advertisement. I thoroughly thought about what genre, if i was the audience, i find most effective and exciting. Therefore, i opted with the genre horror as it creates thrills and scares the audience while keeping them intrigued. My film is about a young girl who is bullied at school by her peers but also by her drunken father who constantly abuses her, then suddenly she is chased into the forest and is mysteriously murdered. She seeks justice to be made by having her murderer caught so she can go to the afterlife and finally visit her mother who she loves dearly. She communicates with her only best friend who helps her try and catch her murderer, however the police and other people don't believe that the young girl is still present and think the best friend is crazy resulting in them doing it alone.
