Good example...

The wind was blowing but by holding the camera still you can capture the motion blur but keep your subject in focus.

HOLD CAMERA STEADY

Not so good example...

LIGHTING

Avoid camera shake by using both hands then brace your elbows against your chest to create a tripod effect.

Good example...

This was taken right before sunset. When it starts getting dark most people think they need to use the flash. Try not using it and you will like your picture much better!

Good example...

Give your picture a point of interest with the rule of thirds.

RULE OF THIRDS

Good example...

Always try to use natural lighting. Don't use direct sunlight, look for the indirect light or the shade. It really does make a difference.

Don’t use the flash unless you absolutely have to.

PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS

Not so good example...

Good example...

Imagine that your image is divided into 9 equal parts by two verticle and two horizontal lines. Try to position the most important elements in your scene along the places these line intersect or just along the lines. Doing so will add balance and interest to your photo.

PERSPECTIVE & ANGLES

Good example...

Capture the details.

Good example...

Don't be afraid to be quirky. Try new angles.

Good example...

To me, taking photos is an adventure. Take snaps from all angles and if you have to stand on a chair, go for it! There’s no harm in playing with your angles, sometimes they make the best photos. Make your photos unique and don’t go for the obvious shot. Experiment.

With kids, get down on their level.

Capture their perspective.

BACKGROUNDS

Take lots of picture and don't be afraid to take bad pictures. Experiment, you'll never get better if you don't practice!!! MOST IMPORTANTLY...HAVE FUN!!!!!

Good example...

Keep it simple and clean.

Not so good example...

Always consider your background when taking photos. Don’t let a messy background take away from your subject. I always try to find a clean and empty wall to take pictures in front of.

Good example...

Be mindful of your surroundings. Not pictured is the parking lot behind us and the street lamps.
