Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

This is an example of a healthy human heart.

This is an example of an unhealthy human heart because the arteries are blocked, which can cause a heart attack.

Major tissue

Cell type

Epithelial tissue- This can be found in the structure of veins, arteries, and capillaries, while it also covers the heart.

The heart has two cells within. Those are called the cardiomyocytes and the cardiac pacemaker cells. The cardiomyocytes make up the chamber that allows blood enter the heart and where blood is pumped out the heart. The cardiac pacemaker cell is in charge of the beating of the heart. 50% or more of the cells in the heart are cardiac fibroblasts. The heart is also a diploid cell.

Circulatory system

Muscle Tissue- The heart, which is the main organ, is considered a muscle, which means it is mostly made up of muscle tissue.

Connective tissue- It's known as the "glue" that holds the body. This tissue can be found in the walls of veins, arteries and capillaries, and also is huge in the makeup of the heart.

The circulatory system is made up of the heart and blood vessels, which include the arteries, veins, and capillaries.

The circulatory system is able to send nutrients, carbon dioxide, hormones, and blood cells to and from cells in the body, but if the arteries in the heart are clogged, then it would be hard for the circulatory system to transmit blood.

What is it?

The heart needs fuel so it can work. The myocardium, which is the muscular tissue of the heart, needs nutrients and oxygen. The only way the myocardium can receive these things though is through the Coronary arteries, but when the arteries are blocked, the heart tissue does not get enough blood.

This explains the Artery Wall.

Heart Muscle cells

The Mitochondria of the heart provides the energy needed to pump blood and oxygen thorough the organs of the body. The heart has only one or two nuclei. Another organelle include cardiomyocites, which have long chains of sarcomeres.

The heart is made up of Cardiac muscle cells and when the arteries are blocked, they die because the coronary arteries are not supplying any blood, and because they do not have enough oxygen.

Post Surgery

After surgery, a patient will spend about 1 or 2 days in the intensive care unit, where their heart rate, oxygen and blood levels will be on check. The patient will also have an IV, where the medicines that control circulation and blood pressure go through. Once the patient is moved from the ICU, they will be moved to a less intensive care area, where they will staying for 3-5 days before they get to go home. When the patient is preparing to go home, their doctor will give them instructions on how to look out for infections or any other complications. A home nurse will also be sent to the patient's home for about 2 weeks, to check on their heart, and to also look at their diet, which should be way better than before. The full recovery time for a patient takes about 2 months, and it takes abut 8 weeks of recovery before a person can resume their normal activities. The patient will also be left with a permanent scar.

Other organs affected

When the heart fails to receive and pump blood, the blood also fails to get to the Kidneys, which can cause Kidney failure. The brain can also can be affected if it does not have enough blood, which can lead to a stroke.

What is done during surgery?

During bypass surgery a surgeon will make a cut about 6 to 8 inches down the center of the sternum to get to your heart. While that is going on you are connected to a heart-lung bypass machine, which lets the blood circulate throughout your body during surgery. The surgeon uses a healthy blood vessel from your chest, leg, abdomen or arm and connects it to other arteries in your heart so that blood is going around the diseased or blocked area. After coronary bypass surgery, the blood flow to your heart becomes better.
