As a group we carried out research and we found that teenagers and young adults (14-18 year olds) are mainly the most popular target group for thrillers; watched them the most.
Using the voice over, (which is the young teenage girl expressing how she feels and what she's going to do next) also helps our opening attract the right target audience. The young teenagers watching will be able to relate to what is being said as everyone has felt rubbish before.

The character is a young UK white female. We have used props and costume to make her seem like the proverbial 'girl next door'. Her age and seemingly safe environment suggest she is a girl with her whole life in front her - making her suicide all the more dramatic and mysterious.
She is dressed in pyjamas her make-up is running and her hair messy which suggests that she is given up on life - she has let her appearance slip.
For our thriller opening, we chose to have a female as our protagonist. This is due to the fact we wanted our opening to be different, and we found that in most thrillers the protagonist is male; we wanted to challange this stereotypical idea. As you can see in the image to the right, is a teenage girl ( our atagonist for our thriller)
The location we find her in is her bathroom- usually a safe domestic space
The handwritten note suggest that this girl has thought her action thoroughly - and this is her only option.
To help make our thriller attract our target audience, we had to do the little details aswell, as i find this are the most effective when watching back. For example, many teenage girls can relate to this opening due to the fact our atagonist clearly wears a medium amount of eye makeup; takes care of her appearence, which many teenage girls do. Also, another example is, the emotions the character is feeling and going through. Many teenage girls at one point will feel very small and vulnerable, this is why i thought the voice over works extreamly well and also the way it is clear the girl has been crying.
As our protagonist for our thriller opening is a young teenage girl, we wanted her to come across as the victim which leads to her appearing vulnerable, helpless and weak. I find that using a teenage girl will definately attract our chosen target audience. This is because other teenagers can relate with the character and understand a lot more.
